I'm 37, just turned it in February. My first Joe was Short Fuse. I'm hoping they bring him out as a carded figure and not just in the big set at Christmas. Would love to have a 25th to go along side my first.

I'm 37 as well. My first figure was straight arm Flash, even though I did get the VAMP and Clutch at the same time. I have now recollected the VAMP and Flash (Clutch has swivel arms now). I am going to get the new 25th versions, but will have to wait a bit because of cash issues.
By the way, remember those funny pen/markers that when you wrote on paper they would write in silver but had a red (or blue or purple) border that showed up? We used these a ton in Jr High. Anyway, I used these pens to mark my Joes (especially ones with black boots). So if you find Joes with silver under one or both feet and maybe some with silver on top of red residue (i had mostly red accent pens), htose could very well have been mine. I sold most of mine off to Intergalactic Trading in Orlando Florida back in '89/'90. Let me know if you find one! I'd love to bring a joe or 2 back home!
(ok, it's a stretch, but I'll try anything once).
EDIT: Oh yeah, and I wrote "AK" under my vehicles too! (like the VAMP)
"I got sand in my shoe."

28 here. My first GI Joe was the VAMP with Clutch. Unfortunately, Clutch was lost among the all the wrapping paper, so it was another couple of years before I figured out that the VAMP actually came with a figure.
My best memory was coming downstairs Christmas morning to find the Flagg with the Skystriker parked on its deck along with Tomax/Xamot and Listen 'N Fun Tripwire. I still have the VAMP and Listen N Fun tripwire. I just recently purchased a beautiful MOC Tomax/Xamot and got a great condition Flagg a few years ago. Ah, I love reminiscing.

34. Straight Arm SE and HAL w/ Grand Slam were my first two Joe items. Seems like this question is asked every 6 months or so.
Now...where is Uncleneat to answer the oldest collector question?

About to turn 32 in two months. I have all of the Joes I ever collected going back to 1982. I started so early that I don't think I have any 1.5 versions of any figures, they're all straight armed and some are thumb-less though I tried using superglue triage.
I do love the hunt and the excitement when you find what you're looking for for the first time. I remember going to TRU as a kid and ran around that "dumb" wall of crap they made you go through to get into the stores. I'd rush back there and dart through pegs of figures I didn't want (You still can't find what you're looking for!). I remember visiting my grandparents as a kid, and found snake eyes v2 at the now defunct Montgomery Wards.
Lots of fond memories revolving around finding a figure or vehicle or a birthday when I received one. My parents said I was easy to shop for, all I wanted were legos or GI Joe. They'd ask my older brother which ones I was clamoring for. My 6th and 7th birthday and hannukah gifts were the Mobat, Skystriker and Rattler. My brother was into it to though 4 yrs older and he got them too. He gave me his figures later on where I got the Vamp. I really love the old school stuff like the HAL laser and twin Gatling guns trailers that worked with the vamp and Mobat. I remember the Viper glider, throwing it around. It was pretty bad ass, I was too young to realize how delicate it was till it wouldn't fly anymore. My front foyer in the house I grew up in was two stories with a staircase. We used to drop the skystriker parachute seats off of it. Man, those were the days.
Now I've got two stepkids and the shows they watch and the way they play with toys is so alien to me. It's just weird, I guess a different culture these days. The ten year old wants bakugon and his lego building skills are really rudimentary. I used to create enclosed cockpit spacecraft and castles with staircases and battlements. What's happened to kids, not only do they not go outside and play games anymore, they watch crap tv shows and don't play with toys properly! No imagination!

38 today (18th August). Guess that makes me part of the "Senior Ranking Set"...
My first ACTION FORCE figure was a "British Marine". My first AF figure from the next 'versus the Red Shadows' wave was a "Z-Force Infantryman". My first 'repainted Joe' AF figure was "Red Laser". My first AF Joe on the old cards was "Flash". My first GI Joe on the proper cards was an "Eel".... I think that covers everything.
