i know, i know! I will probably get a lot of slack for this comment but i feel that it is true! as i am searching ebay, AFA prices are outrageous! I mean, who wants to pay $800 for a AFA 85 1984 firefly or 1985 snake eyes w/timber!? You can put together a complete loose 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1986 figure set for that amount of money! I understand its awesome to have such a minty specimen of ONE figure, but is it really worth it?

Toys in plastic boxes are serious business.

I would never buy afa grade products but I am thinking about getting my collection afa graded next time Im at Comic Con (save shipping to AFA). I know what alot of people think of afa but to someone with deep pockets respects it and pays more for products that are rated. My carded collection will be worth more, thats what collecting is all about, and if your already not going to open a toy you may as well just place it in hard plastic cases for better protection.

I collect becuase its fun and it reminds me of being a kid. Even with children I still love the feeling of opening a toy, even if its followed now by handing it to my son. I have many Marvel Legends, Transformers, and GI Joes that are still mint in package. I would be afraid to get them graded because I am prepared to open all of them at a moments notice. Haha.

Indeed. Taking a figure, sealing it in perspex and adding a whopping price tag doesn't make a figure more desirable to me.
If a figure measures up to my standards I'm happy with it.

I had a bad experience with AFA. I sent a unpunched Empire carded Boba Fett in with all the paper work and payment and a month later I got it back with a new crack in the blister. I find it hard to believe that someone at AFA had anything to do with the damage, it was obviously unpacked by someone by the time I got it back. Since then grading has seemed less than necessary to enhance my collection.

The only authority to grade my toys is me.

I understand that alot of people dont like AFA but have you ever bought a figure on ebay, for example lets say like the OP mentioned a firefly moc. I have seen alot of auctions for an ungraded moc 84 version go for as much as $600 But on average they are about $450 and you have to rely on the seller to describe the item with all of its flaws and be exact with his description. You hear all the time about people getting jipped from seller getting items not as described. I would rather spend a little more for something that you know exactlly what you are going to be getting instead of spending $600 on something and then bieng disapointed when you get it. But thats just my opinion.

I agree with you, it's outrageous but for some reason people feel the need to open their pockets more when purchasing something graded. I will pass, in fact, I won't even consider a graded piece because I know that the price is going to go for triple what the item is worth, and I don't want to contribute to this nonsense.
