Well, army building plus the fact that it is a damn good toy. Army builders want armies of good figures, not stupid ones like the Viper. I got my first BAT yesterday. Like you, my Joe interest waned after 1985, but there is no denying that with the cool weathering paint job, the interchangeable arms, and the general awesomeness of being a robot, this is a great figure.
I didnt even scroll this thread cause this is the best answer! I 100% agree man! |

I like the BAT, but I think the Snow Serpent is so much cooler. I opened one and was just like "wow!" I opened the BAT too, and was not AS impressed.

I've always liked the BATs, one reason is the interchangeable arm attachments, which I always thought was cool back in the day (and now even better with both arms having the feature). That and I've always liked robots.

I love you guys who are all like, "I stopped collecting GI Joes in 85 or 86" it makes me feel so young (I was born in 84). Anyway I never had the original Bat but I did have the BAAT (Battle Armored Android Trooper the space one) and the Overkill BAT command unit with the talking backpack... both were cool figures in their days... and I too remember how awesome they were in the cartoon.
