My brother and I played the same way, but we'd often set up diffrent objectives, requiring diffrent teams. I'd have my Joes fight my Cobras, while he did the same thing, and they'd meet in the middle sometimes. I still play with my son, he's four. We play similar to you and your brother.

I didn't get to play Joes with my brother much, but when I was allowed to play with him and his friends, I remember that Lady Jaye got around a lot. Also, Raptor's pet bird was renamed Sulphur and dive bombed the enemy, or friends, it didn't matter.

I'm probably the youngest person here. *Raises Hand* I play with them. Either I just randomly have fights/battles, Have "Shows or Movies" as various people have said, or I'll use them for playing out a script idea and seeing different angles and stuff. Plus it helps when relating to gear. Plus looking out the window and coming up with ideas during Social Studies is the best.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. New to hisstank, and semi-new to Joes. Funny, it started with seeing the Marvel Universe 3.75 inch line and then buying Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Storm Shadow single cards, then it kind of ballooned from there.
Everything is open, except for the doubles of the Marvel Universe figures. I've got some epic poses on my desk. On my free time, especially at work, I'll jot down some short story lines that I'd like to make a 'comic' or short animation out of using the toys. Basically Marvel vs GI Joe Universe. One thing sorely lacking, however, is playsets. I think my girl would freak if I started bringing in playsets, but I just picked up the Spawn alley set for some urban fights and Spiderman battles. Anyone know of decent netting to use as 'webbing'?
If my comic or animation idea ever gets off the ground, this forum will be the first to know.
And for people who tell me that my toy addiction is stupid/weird, whatever. My response is that there are a lot worse things to be addicted to.
Play on, folks. Great board here.

So glad u started this thread FK. I actually had been trying to answer the question for myself since last spring when I started collecting 25th.
My first conclusion was it wasn't fun "playing" anymore. Axis Power came from a few ideas, but a big reason was to fill that need of roleplay you described with your bro.
So to answer your question:
THIS is how I play!
Whoah, disn't realize this thread was so old! Oh well, still relevant.

My brother and I also played as directors of a story rather than pick a side and play against. I never liked versus mode as a kid, always led to fights and broken lost toys.
Now as I like to set up scenes. Sometimes I will, set up narratively sequential scenes over the course of a few weeks, changing the scene every few days. This is the vestigial remnants of the old directing style of play.

I don't play per say with the 25th line. I just pose them in my IKEA display case. Still trying to decide how to hang my planes up near the ceiling like they are in a dog fight in the skies...But yesterday I caught myself "playing" with the Rattler and Tiger Rat and also the Conquest. I was flying it around my house while my dog was chasing me..lol. Other than that, my 25th line has been geting nothing but posing in their display case in my office.
BUT when I was younger and played with the ARAH line I'd set up scenes in my moms garden, backyard, frontyard, my neigbors yard, living room, bedroom, playgrounds, couch, basically all over the place. For example I'd play out my on scenes (improv) or sort of recreate the comics or cartoons with a twist..., here is one for you. I'd flood a portion of my moms garden while putting up little dams to keep the water in certain areas. This was supposed to be the swamps where Zartan and the drednoks hung out..the Everglades. Since my moms garden was huge and the tall plants where great trees (well for joe size) Then I'd bust out the vehicles (water moccasin, Zartans skier, hisstank, sharc, whale, rattler, mobat, dragon fly, thunder machine) and lay them out where they were supposed to enter the scene and set up the Joes (mutt & junkyard, tripwire, cutter, deepsix, torpedo, duke, steeler) and Cobra's (cobra commander, zartan, destro, firefly, wild weasel, thrasher and the rest of the knoks) where they were supposed to be. Then "play" begins. My joe's would get so dirty...man I loved it. I still remember finding toads while "playing" in the garden and they would become the swamp monsters that cobra made from mutating the wildlife..LOL! After "playing" with em, I'd wash each one and dry them off and bring them back in the house. Good times!
Since my father was in the military, my Joes have seen action alll over the world, from Europe, Asia, South America, Far East, Middle east and all over the USA, just like the comics and the cartoons..man I loved it. Never left the planet though..haha. Hopefully when I get kids of my own, I'll play with my son/daughter like how I used to play (with joes).

I do that myself with a wrestling pic fed. It's alot of fun and I agree, one of the best ways to express my creativity. If anyone would like to check it out, here's the link: GENEXT
