Hi, This Is My First Time Posting Message Here And I Have A Question. I Don't Understand Why There Are People Putting Wave 2 And 3 On Ebay So They Can Make Money From People Who Are Trying To Collect G. I. Joe.. When I Was A Kid, I Only Had A Few 3 3/4 Joes Because My Parents Couldn't Afford To Buy Me More Toys. Now That I Finally Have A Well-secured Financial Status And Thanks To Hasbro For Re-releasing 3 3/4 Joes But I Am Having A Hard Time To Find Them In Stores! Like Most Of Guys Here, I Have Been To Target, Walmart And Toysrus On Every Weekend And Sometimes Even During Weekdays When I Get Off Work, But Still I Have No Luck! It Makes Me Feel Upset To See There Are People Out There With Wave 2 And 3 And Put Them On Ebay So They Think They Can Make Money From People Who Are True Collectors-people Like Me Who Are Collecting Toys Just To Fulfill His Childhood's Dream.

Supply and demand my good friend.
BTW...welcome to the board. Its a waiting game...will they show up in your area, or do you give in and pay ebay prices? Some of us caved (looks at self), some of us wait. With gas prices the way they are....depends on how far you are from the stores that may get them.

Really, in a perfect world everyone would blacklist all the scalpers and they'd be stuck with a bunch of toys no ones gonna buy from them (except for retail price) Course if it were a perfect world, I suppose there wouldn't be scalpers, would there? Sadly it's a fact of life that has expanded tenfold with Ebay. People have been like this as far back as I can remember. Long ago I remember my dad wanting me to keep my issue 1 Alf comic in mint condition because "it could be worth something someday" I mean come on! It was an ALF comic! But the "collectibles market" exploded and now everyone thinks everything is a collectible, add in low distribution along with the nostalgial factor (I'm sure some of these scalpers had Joes as a kid, or knew about them back then) they see how much the originals go for today and along comes this shiny new toy that looks a lot like the original, they probably think they just got a second chance they missed out on the first time by not thinking a toy would be worth much years later or they could just be evil |

And honestly, people hunting these down at retail and listing them on eBay are providing a service. Not everyone has time to go from store to store every single day in an effort to find them, so the eBay sellers are saving them time and hassle. Like it or not, that time is valuable and worth the premium for some collectors. I often buy stuff online, simply because I don't have time to go searching every day. Is it fair that some people have more money to spend on toys? It's certainly just as fair as some people having time to make seven trips a week to Target and Wal-Mart. The idea that people shouldn't buy collectibles and resell them on the secondary market is a construct of selective socialism. If people can profit from basic necessities like food and clothing, then they should certainly be able to profit from action figures collected by adults. |

I concur. I was fortunate enough to find wave 2 and part of wave 3 in retail, but I've turned to eBay to "fill in the gaps".
I won a wave 3 Shipwreck last night...for $8.49. Considering that it would've been $5.99 plus tax, the seller really didn't make that much off of me, considering they live in Cali (higher tax). Keep the Faith, YoJoe, as good things come to those who wait ;) |

its a double edged sword...blah blah blah...its all been said before.
if those with auctions had their auctions end without any bids...they would get the picture and disappear. yet if you wait too long, the wave goes out of circulation and you lose there too. Me? i refuse, and let me repeat that in all caps, REFUSE to go to ebay for a toy that just hit retail. sometimes it takes a mini-eternity to find new stuff, but i cannot think of a mainstream figure, (and by mainstream i mean WM, TRU, Target...not Spencer or Hot Topic stuff), that i have not eventually found. |
