I remember a few years ago someone saying they had a full case of 89' Joes. I think they were packed 48 per case. He had it for sale for $250.00. I should have jumped on it, but I didn't.
But I was wondering what are the chances that someone out there has a case of 82-89 joes? Does anyone have a case or know someone that has one? I would love to see pics. Thanks, Jeremy |

I'm sure there are sealed cases out there. Sometimes these amazing finds just pop up once and awhile.

Interesting this thread came up.
2 instances... 1- A friend of mine was working a house clean out and found an unopened case of Master's of the Universe figures. 2- In the mid 90's my father went back to a toy store in Newark, New Jersey we used to frequent and got a case of un-opened 1986 JOES for dirt cheap as the place was going out of biz, the case just sat there for ages as the Joes died in like 1991, they never had any reason to put them out, they just got lost in the shuffle. |

I only have a few on card from that case now, as it was eventually opened. Some were given out as birthday presents, x-mas gifts, others were used for trade back in the day to complete my vintage Star Wars collection.
But they do exist, and there are cases in attics, old stores and basements sitting out there now. For instance I have 4 unopened cases of 1998 Star wars figures in my attic and a case of Metal Gear Solid figures too. If anything were to happen to me, they'd just be there, undiscovered, my parent's wouldn't remember they were there, and my GF and friends don't know they are there. They'd be lost to time, really. Until unearthed, whenever? The same has to have happened back in the 80's/90's with JOES. |

This is an extremely rare occurrance but not unheard of. I used to work for toy stores in the late 80's-early 90's and every now and then a case of toys would get lost in the shuffle. For example say you're restocking Ninja Turtles figures and there are 6 cases in the warehouse. You accidently knock 1 case behind the storage rack (and in most cases these racks are either bolted or cemented into the foundation....so they ain't moving).....by the time the store does an inventory count (back then I remember them being twice a year) and discover the missing product most likely they'll write it off as being stolen. That case will lie behind that rack undiscovered until either a floor plan change (where they would remove or relocate the racks) or they go out of business and close.
Another scenario is the mom and pop/drugstore toy aisles. I vividly remember in about 1988 or so seeing a few D&D figures hanging on the shelf at a way-out-of-the-way Eckerd Drugs in a little town in Delaware. As far as I know D&D figures had been out of production for about 3 or 4 years...so how did they get them? Those little country stores order such little product and if it doesn't sell it just sits there. Also wholesale clubs or discount chains purchase old overstock and discontinued toys long after Toys R Us sends them back to the manufactor. Last time I recall anything like this worth mentioning was in 1996 seeing Cowboy's Of Moo-Mesa (who remembers them???) at a discount store for a dollar or two......I stocked that line at Kiddie City back in 1989....so yeah, it happens........however, I seriously doubt it happens much nowadays. |
