So, for my 25th line i have pretty much all the super rare figures except for a gold PDD, and i have a bunch of MOC vintage star wars figures. I was thinking about getting them all AFA graded but was just wondering if its really worth it?
I see a normal figure for example the SDCC blue cc for $100 but an AFA graded versions is $500-$700. Why? i dont understand why that grade adds an addition $500 to it when mine is in the same condition. Also, the grading seems kind of pricey and depending on the way you go it could have a 30-40 day turnaround on it? Anyways, i know a lot of you guys get you stuff AFA graded. any info on this would be a great help. Thanks |

Currently, I only get the rare stuff that I buy graded by AFA. It's not so much to sell it. I have them graded so they get protected and it looks nice to display.

When people buy collectibles like Joe figures they like to know exactly what they are getting when it comes to its condition. When someone buys a figure that is graded by AFA it gives them a sense of comfort and confidence.
My opinion of a cards condition differs from yours and from the next guys and the next guy and so on. An AFA 85 is well, An AFA 85. Not to mention that they incase the figures in those cool looking acrylic cases which most of us like. It all boils down to the collector. If you are thinking of selling your collection one day, then I think it would be a good idea to get them graded. It will give them more value and protection for years to come. Hope my 2 cents helped. I remember when I got my Transformers Optimus Prime '84 MISB AFAed and got a 90 on it. I got it graded because of the restoration and display purposes.
But when I sold it for $8,500 I did not even question why and how it adds value or what not. |

I like getting my stuff graded, especially sending them sealed cases to get the uncirculated grade. It will definitely up the value on the figure, but of course the particular figure will dictate how much. If it is popular and harded to find, the value goes up. If it's easier to find/not so popular, value still goes up, but minimally. Overall, I think it's worth it.

Grade the vintage RAH and Not the new 25th! Vintage is HTF MOC and produced in much lower quantities back then while everyone under the joe sun today is collecting 25th anniv. MOC as if they will be worth a small fortune when they turn 50 (and I hope they will be of course!). But to grade new stuff is just throwing your money away unless you're grading the SDCC exclusives and True HTF Variants.
Just my opinion! |

Agree, I only AFA the more rarer 25th stuff (currently I have the two destros and RRP graded) everything else is in cases. I like seeing all the vintage stuff graded, have a few peices that I am waiting to send in. It's worth it to me.
