He's a trained killer and should not be taken lightly.

Shipwreck...... Hm.. where do *I* begin?
My family has a history with the Navy, since WWII. He was my first Joe, Sharing with him a lot of things from his Parrot, to Gunner. Shippy to me is a Gunny Sailor and he's a SEAL, plus a Senior Cheif. Which you can be all these things.. Rank, Skill and MOS So Delgado can still be my SEAL, but he also has his personality(like the cartoon) and has his gruff nature(DDP) SO.. there is an A ok in my book. Right Polly?

I've always liked Shipwreck. He's the quintessential hard drinking, hard fighting, hard living sailor. I use him as a SWCC Crew Chief, he was a Riverine Crewman fighting pirates and smugglers in the Mekong Delta after all

I like the character in the cartoon.
That's about it. I just watched an episode the other night and Lady Jaye says to Shipwreck, "You can't go with us. You're not dive qualified, Shipwreck" lol. Just though it was funny, since he's a seal and such with the action figures. |

WOW after near 2 years this thread sprung up again!
And yes, my own perceptions of Ship have changed. At least in my verse...Thanks to GASP!!! ROC figures, and a quick kitbash, tossing ROC Ship's head on to "Deep Six"'s body... Maybe I'm happy with him because now Flash has a ROC body that incorporates both the NATO blues, plus the RIA, and dosen't look like a miscolored HEAT Viper...Thanks Shippy! But in all honesty, I like Shipwreck now, and incorporate him more into my Joe dio-verse now than I did before. As for attitude... He ranks about as high as Beachhead as a grumpass

To be fair, when Shipwreck was introduced into the Joe line in the 80s, it didn't make much sense to have a generic "navy sailor" on a SF team. Sure, the Joes had many naval craft at the time, but to have what would become a core character with little credentials except being an exceptional sailor didn't seem like a good use of a character (I'm not touching the whole "Polly" thing). Later, when DDP began pushing that Shipwreck was a SEAL, this made far more sense. Nothing against sailors, but you never see a Joe Admiral or Cutter on a hostage rescue mission, but you see Shipwreck all the time. It explained where he received that training. The former SEALS I have met are exceptional sailors with some amazing skills - and this seems to be the vein Shipwreck falls into.

I always liked Shipwreck in the cartoon. I didn't read the comics as a kid so Wreck to me was as he was on screen. I do like his DD outfit which gives him a more intimidating and tougher looking appearance.
