My dream is to make a stop motion version of "In the Navy" using Shipwreck, Spirit, Law and Wild Bill on the deck on the USS Flagg.

For me Shipwreck was always an old school, Herman Melville style sailor. I'm originally from Kodiak Alaska, the son of fisherman, I grew up on my dads boat fishing salmon when I wasn't in school. My uncles were tugboatmen, as was my grandfather. Sailoring, and more over, it's attitude, were ingrained in me early.
In the Joe pantheon, Shipwreck represented to me a certain Sailors Ethic, one that wasn't patently Warrior Code, like a Snake Eyes or Duke, but more of a universal Can Do. Growing up fishing I learned that a good sailor is like a swiss army knife. All Purpose. Maybe not the best mechanic, but can fix a motor. Not the best fighter, but can handle himself. Not the best shot, but can hunt down or catch a meal. Its part of the varied challenges that can face you at sea. You might need to know how to tie a knot, cut a line or repair a hydraulic line, all in 5 minutes. Or you might just sit back and make snarky comments while you watch the radar and play cards. Theres also an amount of fatalism that comes with living at sea. For me it's best summarized by the comic series when shipwreck calmly prepares for a tsunami that he suspects is coming, while not panicking or alarming his companions. He may die when that rougue wave hits, but if hes still breathing he'll be ready to swing. Jack of all trades. Billy Bud. Call me Ishmael.

Ok and for good measure, Shoreleave is the most brilliant lampoon of GiJoe EVER. Viva La Venture.
