I don't remember the peg warmers, but I do remember my friend and I searching all over for Storm Shadow V1 only to come home disappointed with some Cobra Sabateur guy named "Firefly" because he looked kinda like a ninja. This was long before Hasbro/Hama decided that EVERYBODY was a ninja.

I remember seeing full pegs of Tele Vipers at Wal Mart back in 1985... For at least a YEAR.
The Tele Viper was definitely a peg warmer in my area. |

Crystal Ball was still pegwarming my TRU when Star Wars rebooted in '95. No Joke.
I do remember that the pegs were always so full you could find whatever you were looking for. |

My greates memory of the OG line was when the BAT came out. Me and my cousin went to a place called "Toy City"
I will never forget this, its something that has stuck in my mind forever. I remember walking down the aisles and turning into the Joe aisle. It was probably about 20 feet long, and 8 to 10 feet high. It was from top to bottom side to side filled with GI Joe figures. Hundreds and hundreds of them. There was not 1 figure that you could not find. This has stuck in my head for one reason. That is the only time i have ever seen that. I started collecting in the early 90's with the release of SW POTF2 And i remember the pain and agony of trying to find figures. Having to go from store to store to store with my mom, only finding empty pegs. I dont know what the difference is between then and now, and why figures are so scarce. Those were good time though. Great times infact |

I remember all the good figures were peg warmer and you didn't have to worry about anything everytime you go to a top dept because they had everyone back then. I wish I can invent a time machine to go back and go through down the memory lane to see all the figures on the peg. I remember one day I was at HEB in San Antonio Texas looking for Zartan as a kid, I was lucky that day to get all my favorite figures ( snow job, snake eyes, storm shadow, firefly, cobra commanderm duke, and mutt&junkyard) all in one day. Now these days, it pisses me off seeing some people would buy them by the bulk at store not giving anyone a chance to get that feeling you had as a kid when you see something you wanted, you get that feeling " oh wow, he/she looks cool" and then you hurry home to show your friends what you got and make some trades or go outside and play g.I.joe vs cobra with your friends. Damn! I wish I can go through that again as a kid as it was a very good memory for me.

That is true....back in the day none of the figures were hard to find. Some might be a little more rare then others.....but nothing at all like today. I remember the giant 20ft Joe aisle myself. Good times. I think my Rite Aid might still have a Crystal Ball hanging on the peg......LOL

The only pegwarmers I can really remember from the 85-86 days were Bazooka, Iceberg, Lady Jaye, and maybe Dial-Tone. The Crimson Twins weren't too difficult to find either.
There were certain figures I specifically looked for but never found: Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Mutt & Junkyard, Flint, and Barbecue. |
