Target sucks! plane and simple! so does walmart! The problem with these guys is toys amount to almost nothing in their profit. They could care less if their aisles are stocked. The one place that should be stocked 24/7 regardless of the toy, and that should have special treatment from every toy manufacturer should be TRU. they are a target/walmart sized toy store but they dont, and rarely do have anything. That place, if done right, and targeted a slightly older croud could be huge! think about it. Think about if they targeted the collector now instead of the 5 yr old kid. That place would rock!

Does anyone remember when Star Wars was first reintroduced in 1995? You couldn't find a SINGLE star wars figure anywhere.
people were buying whole cases, bugging employees to bring out new stuff, etc. Sound familiar? But look at this, there was no ebay, just local toy shows, there were no online stores. That made Star Wars SUPER hot. I remember going to TRU daily and seeing the 10-15 pegs empty. Hell, Fruit Loops offered that exclusive Han Solo in Stormtrooper outfit and did you ever see a box of Fruit Loops? Nope. Every grocery store sold out. a damn cereal. You think Hasbro doesn't know what's going on? You think stores care? 9 times out of 10 toys are a loss leader for stores. It gets people into the stores. Look at how many times we go into Target, walmart, kmart to look for toys, find nothing, and maybe pick up a soda, chips, or something else while were there. See, they got us in there and we bought something. We didn't get what we wanted, so we'll be back another time. Back to the Star Wars story, when Hasbro finally caught up with demand, you could find figures hanging, and when the next wave came out, finding the new figures were tough as the old stuff were clogging the pegs. Demand was met, reselling started dropping, product began collecting dust. If Joes meet demand, the crap will clog preventing more product. Look at the comic packs. Finding the new ones are tough as the old stuff is overflowing. Stores won't get in new ones as the UPC are all the same, their computers show they have 20-30 of the same product. they won't get more. This is why dealing with bigger stores is tough because of computer controlled inventory. Online stores know what's different and cans ell accordingly. |
