We've had some great artists on this franchise, who are yours?
Here are mine: Herbe Trimpe Mike Zeck Larry Hama-Largely underrated for his drawing. The man can draw! He did a few issues during the Marvel run, and I hope he draws some for DDP in the near future. He is primarily known for his writing, but he is a good penciler too. Mike Bear-Steffano Casselli left some huge shoes to fill in, and Bear does a great job of it. Steffano Casselli-Awesome artwork, Sunder Raj gives some great colors to his inked work. This man's style is great, and was the main reason I looked forward to America's Elite during its inception. He has the best modern rendition of Storm Shadow. If he wasn't drawing one of the Initiative comics for Marvel, maybe he would be the one drawing the Storm Shadow solo book for DDP. |

ok..
Mike Zeck was THE MAN for doing the comic covers, especially the run of the 40's issues. I was a big fan of M.D. Bright's run of 93-107. although he dropped the ball on how messed up Snake Eye's face was. It didnt look as bad as they made it out to be. I was epecting something like Darkman or something. otherwise, Hie artwork was great. was also a Big fan of Andrew Wildman, Both his G.I.Joe and Transformers run was great. (although They did overuse the ninjas)

I'm with Shin on his appraisal of Mr. Hama as an artist. But if I were to judge only long-run artists, I would have to go with Trimpe and M.D. Bright, who had a style IMO, that was similar to John Byrne, Paul Smith, or even Rick Leonardi.
Special shout out also to Michael Golden. ;) -PJ |

Andrew Wildman would be my fave, although I wish he would've had the job at a better time character and storywise.

Not sure if only covers count, but I love J. Scott Campbells take on the Joes. Cobra characters look deliciously evil.

Always did like Herb Trimpe too, but I'd have to give my vote for fav Joe artist to Tim Seely. Love his pencils, esp. since he finally got to draw Cobra-La in the last TF vs. GIJoe crossover.

HE WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!
I met Herb Trimpe, Larry Hama and Ron Wingham at the joe con, ... and it was the coolest experience ever! I had about a 2 hour conversation with Herb trimpe, turns out he is a teacher now, and since I am also an art eacher, we sat there swapping clasroom stories! Ron Wingham is an "old School" artist, which I respect. We both have a thing bout this new compruerized art, and miss the days of the old school hand drawing, inking, and coloring. (I still marvel at how he inks with a BRUSH instead of a pen!) Larry Hama is one of the coolest and most patient men I have ever met! not only was he signing autographs, but in his spare time, HE WALKED THROUGH THE SHOW FLOOR JUST MEETING PEOPLE AND TALKING TO FANS!!!!! also in his presentation, he went step by step on G.I.Joe issue @21, in how he drew it, and what techniques he used. The interesting thing is,.. he had no idea on what the plot was until he started drawing it.. and thats how he created the link between Storm Shadow and Snake eyes!!! oh and guess what? HE'S GOING BACK TO HASBRO AND DRAWING ALL NEW COMICS!!!!!!!!!!!!
