I was just telling my friend that for every Cobra Commander,Snake Eyes,Destro or Storm Shadow that they release, it's a slot that could have been a new character that hasn't been updated yet. We're both getting really sick & tired of Storm Shadow & Snake Eyes. They're over-doing it with those 2. It's overkill now. They used to be cool characters but not anymore. Now we're just sick & tired of them taking up space in every wave. Hasbro pushes Snake-Eyes & Storm Shadow on Joe fans the same way they push Optimus Prime, Jazz & Bumblebee on Transformers fans.

I agree some of the re-makes are stupid just slight changes, others should have been made that way in the first place. But some are nice. For example the firefly and stormshadow comic pack is a awsome set in my opinon.

It does kind of upset me when they throw ANOTHER Duke or Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow or Cobra Commander into a new comic pack, along with someone I don't have yet. I'm a big music fanatic, and it's like when a band releases an album, and you buy it, and then they release a deluxe album with extra songs - and you want those songs, so you buy them, and then you have two albums. You can always sell the extra, but you never get the original investment back. At least with the extra Joes, I can use them for making customs - but it would be so much better if there were parts just available for customs. Or if they re-released figures with better parts.
Some of the new stuff from the convention does look very cool - but again, we're gonna see Duke and Cobra Commander in more comic packs. I don't want to be down on Hasbro - I like the new figures a lot. But it seems that a lot of figures have been mis-allocated and repackages unecessarily. Especially when you have a universe where there are many troops - Crimson Guard, Vipers, BATs, etc - that could go towards troop building, but instead we get more of the same tired figures. It's exhausting for those of us who want to collect them all, but aren't rich, and feel slightly gyped that we're buying a figure we already have (sometimes 3 or more times). I wouldn't mind if you could put them to use in an army - but I have several Cobra Commanders: Hooded, Helmeted, Helmeted with MASS Element, Helmeted Comic Pack, Helmeted 5 Pack, Helmeted Legions 5 pack, Hooded Ranking Officer 3 Pack and Hooded Crimson Guard 3 Pack, not to mention Battle Armor, but that's an entirely different mold. Or the Convention Exclusive (which I don't have, and doubt I ever will - you have to draw the line somewhere.) What the hell am I going to do with all these Cobra Commanders? I don't want to sell them, because i want a complete collection. I guess they could serve as individual field commanders, or doppelgangers for an assassins bullet. Please, Hasbro - NO MORE COBRA COMMANDER, DUKE, SNAKE EYES or STORM SHADOW!!! More of who we are lacking - like Short Fuze, Zap, a decent looking Grunt, Cover Girl, Recondo, Blowtorch, Scrap-Iron, Alpine, Dusty, Tunnel Rat, Dr. Mindbender, etc. A Dr. Venom and Kwinn would be nice too. I really like some of the stuff you have coming out - like the Cobra Arctic and Desert sets. Let's raise the bar a little higher now... |

For me the best figures are the original classics in their single packs. That said you don't have to buy every single one that comes out after.

They're using a standard formula used by all manufacturers for all character driven toy lines. They have to view each wave as being the starting point for a new kid. While they do cater to the collectors, the toys are first and foremost for kids. So they have a handful of "key" characters that they have to make a "new" updated version in case you just joined the fun. It's like X-men toys that have a new Wolverine with every wave, every Barbie series that has yet another Barbie, or every Transformers series that has to have a new Optimus Prime. Waves nowadays come out faster than they did back in the day, and as you get older time appears to pass even quicker, so you don't really realize that they released 35+ versions of Snake Eyes (28 of which are prior to 25th/ME). I remember as a child being upset that I basically missed my chance at getting a few key characters. Nowadays that problem is eliminated and the kids that don't want another Snake Eyes don't have to buy him. That's just an issue that bothers a collector.

Pyroclasm, thanks for the insight, I never looked at it that way. Makes a lot of sense.

at first, I thought this had to be a thread from 5 years ago. to my shock, I see it was posted today. who needs a time machine, when you're a Joe fan everyday is like the past the way the same complaints and gripes are recycled.
I think anytime someone cries "they are taking a spot of another character," that should be an automatic 2 week suspension. |
