Over the past month, fans have been getting concerned about their favorite little action figure line. From reports than Walmart and TRU have little or no peg space for the line, to the fact few if any figures can be found at retail (outside of the multipacks). Here is the status of GI Joe as I can determine it: It is doing great. It exceeded everyone's expectations from a sales perspective. The fact we can't find singles shows that more than the picky Joe fan are buying these, these have managed to appeal to a broad range of consumers, and unfortunately, there just isn't enough to go around at this point. Status by retailer: TRU- One of the line's biggest supporters has reportedly moved peg space for 25th to side pegs. The reason, according to JBL member Master Chief (who works for the chain) are because "the well is dry". Hasbro cannont keep up with demand, so TRU is filling its shelf space with other items. Target- As far as I'm aware, Target still supports peg space for the singles and the multipacks. Like TRU, Target just cannot get the product to fill those spaces. Walmart- Much has been made by the fact that many stores no longer even have a shelf slot for the brand at all. According to Hasbro reps Destro of Hisstank has spoken to: it is because of the unexpected demand for Transformers product. As much as we like to hold the success of Joe up, it was completely overshadowed by Transformers, which to date STILL remains hard to acquire a number of figures. Stores that do still have peg space (like mine) face the same issues of TRU and Target: we just cannot get the product in. My store has had a standing order for over 30 single figures for over a month now, and we still haven't gotten anything. KB and regional- KB carries the line, albeit at $7.99 per single figure, and smaller regional stores like Hastings, Shopko, Fred Meyer, and Meijers all reportedly carry the line. These smaller stores may also have stocks of 25th figures ready to sell. Keep in mind though, Transformers is Hasbro's baby right now. We are less than a month from release of the feature film DVD, an event sure to spike toy sales into Christmas. There is also the upcoming Transformers Animated series set to launch next spring, and is currently envisioned as being a major hit next year (coming from the makers of previous hits like Teen Titans and Ben 10). In addition, retailers still have TONS on hand and on order for Spider-Man 3, and there is still healthy demand from retail for Star Wars, which has well over 50 figures due to retail between the basic TAC line and the Saga Legends, not to mention comic packs and exclusives. Hasbro is doing the best they can in the time they have. Indications are waves 2 and 3 have been sped up to accomadate this demand (with rumors of an extra wave in 2007 as well), and one of the first 2008 products (25th comic packs) have also been sped up to help offset the demand for product. But it will take time to catch up with demand, and time to catch up on new tooling. So let's be patient with retailers in stocking, and more importantly, be patient with Hasbro as they try and fill demand. Yes, we are due for plenty more repaints and rehashes, but what good is complaining about a rehashed figure if we can't find it to begin with? |

Just have to wait Hasbro out. I'm sure there doing the best they can. Oh well, guess my money will have to go to Halo 3 now!
