I finally got around to putting together a pair of Detolf (IKEA) display cases I bought, they look great! However, the shelves are over a foot apart - lots of wasted space for 4" GI Joes.
Does anyone know of some sort of supplemental shelving I can put in there? What I'm thinking of is basically a platform (preferably transparent to fit with the glass) that would provide additional real estate, supported high enough to let me use the space underneath as well. Any ideas would be appreciated! Pics for reference: Last edited by botticus; 06-29-2008 at 03:42 PM.. |

I have the same display case, I too have been wondering how to get three more shelves. Getting glass for it is no problem, it's how to attach them to the "frame work" without welding. I can't even find clamps small enough to "mickey mouse" it. Any one out there have any suggestions.....?

try some "rear-view mirror" glue. Its designed for glass so its real sturdy. Its about $2 at walmart. Glue some plastic supports to the sides, and you got yourself some more shelves./

What if you used the smaller sized plumbing c clamps. Tighten them up and you may be able to use them as supports. Or did you try this already?

I would say maybe just invest in some acrylic risers to give yourself some height on the shelves . Don't they have "Media" racks or the floating shelves that mount directly to the wall ? My buddy has those and he just had glass cut , they have the holes every half inch or so . Maybe use these for something else ? I think any way you go as far as changing these cases is going to look rigged being its all glass . No real way to hide anything .

http://www.misterplexi.com/risers.html While it wouldn't provide double the display space, it would give me a solid 6-8 inches square for some different elevations. Thanks for the ideas! |
