You guys are way too hard on the fact the MW is playing RC. Your mad at the fact MW is playing a new character in the GI.Joe movie (so am I). RC will be RC in name only. Not RC as we knew him.

It'd probably be terrible, so no.
I mean, we'd all like to see something done with the care and love of, say, the new Battlestar Galactica series or even 24, but will it happen with Hasbro calling all the shots? I doubt it. |

no company would invest the money for a live Joe show. great concept, it would never get the budget needed though.

I would want a realistic series that generally follows the comics.

No, generally such things are then end of a good movie or series of movies.
It's going the other way around that usually works better (sometimes that is).

I agree with the traditional thought and following the comics, but if a new direction was a good one, like the new Battlestar was, then it could be good, but easy to screw up.

TV has proven to be a very strong venue for entertainment in the past few years. The ability to tell a story over the course of several years rather than wrap most of your arc up in two hours has been beneficial for shows like 24, Lost, BSG, etc.
Right now, especially because of the success of the Transformers film, the companies that own these properties, and Hollywood, are looking to cash in as soon as possible and the revenues from films are more lucrative sooner. Unfortunately, you deal with people who are less invested in the properties and they tend to tear them up a bit. Television is a viable market for 80's properties, but they don't pay as much as fast. This would even help Hasbro build its toy empire. They wouldn't have to wait for a film to come around to make new toys. The ability to tell the story over a longer period of time where we can develop story lines and relationships with characters, and have the cast work more as an ensemble, rather than focus only on a few characters at a time is more appealing to me than a film. A show like this may not survive on a regular network, but that isn't such a big deal anymore. BSG pulls in average numbers on sci-fi and produces film quality visual effects, with top notch production values, actors, and quality everything for only 1.5-2 million dollars an episode. But GI Joe, especially for all us former kids that are older now, our parents, and soon with the film, our children, will have a ton more recognizable brand power than people realize, making the show accessible and instantly recognizable in a guide or advertisement. People know GI Joe and they will watch more so on a whim then they would most any other brand (besides star wars) than i can think of. If the show has well written characters, a non-cheesy, serious storyline that deals with human issues, current events issues, and brings in some of that old GI Joe flare that we can share with our kids (with some parental discretion) GI Joe would rock on TV.
