The Manifesto

This is my first attempt at fan fiction here. I wanted to write some stories that get into the characters' heads, since I have a hard time writing battles. This first one is for a major character who I felt was in need of a new origin. You should be able to figure out who it is as the story goes along. And so I present to you- The Manifesto:
Hello. Many of you may be wondering who I am and why I'm doing this. Well, I have the answers to your questions...
I was born to middle class parents in a middle American town. My parents worked hard to provide me with the necessities, as well as some of the things I wanted. I decided early on that I wanted to join the military, and perhaps go into politics. I started learning as much as I could about the military, and set my sights on going to West Point. I studied hard and played several sports throughout high school. By the time I graduated, I had achieved my goal of being accepted at West Point.

Once at West Point, I continued to apply myself as I did in high school. I made a few friends there in hopes of cultivating those relationships later on. When I graduated, I felt that I was in need of some 'field experience", so I joined the Special Forces. It was there that I truly learned how to lead people, both the troops under my command, and the friendly natives. I also started realizing that I was smarter than most of the politicians running things. So, I decided to take it upon myself to clean things up. When I got home from overseas, I resigned my commission and ran for Congress in my home state. That didn't work out, since some people didn't want to hear what I had to say.

After my defeat, I decided I needed to start small and work my way up. I found a small manufacturing town called Springfield that was down on its luck due to a lack of jobs. I ran for mayor, with the promise of bringing in enough jobs to take care of everyone. The people wer eager to hear what I had to say, and they elected me. Once in office, I contacted an arms manufacturer from Europe I had heard of who wanted to expand his market to compete with American manufacturers. He agreeed to set up in my town, as well as to train and hire the local populace to work in his plant. Then, we hired some lawyers and accountants to help all of us keep more of our money and give less to Uncle Sam.

At this point, I realized that if I wanted to change things, it would have to be by force. To that end, I created an army. Able-bodied citizens of Springfield were encouraged to join, and I was able to recruit some disgruntled American soldiers, homegrown freedom fighters, and even radical Middle Eastern terrorists.

Now, we are ready to strike like a cobra that has been hiding in the grass, waiting for an opportunity to attack its prey. From this day forward, we will be known as Cobra. And as the head of the snake, you may call me...Cobra Commander! All hail Cobra!!

Did you get some inspiration for that line from the Hector Ramirez interveiw in the old cartoon? He says something to that effect in one episode and its one of the best quotes ever for CC from the Sunbow show imo. I did enjoy your story and I hope there is more to come.

You know Snakeling, I hadn't thought of that, at least not consciously. It just seemed like something he'd say. I really just wanted a better take on his origins, since I figured he had to be more than a used car salesman or a snake prince.

Yeah, I have several more characters in mind to do origin stories for. CC just happened to be the first one I did, even though he's not my favorite character. I'm hoping to do stories for Zartan, Destro, Hawk, Falcon, Lifeline, and possiblly Snake Eyes. Those are the ones I've had ideas for, and I would welcome any suggestions. Basically, I want to make some of the characters more relevant in today's world while keeping the basic aspects of who they are intact. Zartan's the big one I want to work on, because like CC he's had some very...iffy interpretations. I want to make him more "real", hopefully a bit more believable. I have no intentions of doing every character, just some of my fave and ones who desperately need to be upgraded.

Well good job, I always felt he was more than a used car salesman too. I'm glad to see someone give him a military background. I understand you are going to do others but are you going to do more on CC?

Snakeling, I haven't decided about doing more with CC yet. If I do, it'll be more like a journal entry or something to that effect. I sorta have some ideas for that on the back burner. Glad you like the story, though.

So, it's more CC some of you want? Well, let's see what I can do off the cuff...

From the Commander's personal journal:
It appears that my plans for a direct take over of the US government must be put on hold temporarily. Somehow, the intelligence community learned of our existence. No matter. I will simply change my plans and go bout things in a more subtle way. I believe it was the great philosopher Sun Tzu who siad, "When your enemy is strong, appear weak." so for now, that is what we will do. In the meantime, I shall select some of my best and brightest troops to be part of a new unit within the organization. They will go out and infiltrate American society as "sleeper" agents, gathering information and influencing others to subscribe to our philosophy. And I will also look within the organization for any traitors to our cause. If I find any, I shall have them pay a visit to my doctor friend who is very good at...getting information.
