Hey guys,
I wrote this as a type of therapy for myself since I felt a prior comic story needed a rebuttal from someone who disagreed with its conclusion. I decided to share for other Joe fans who felt the same way. Helix and Snake Eyes are sitting in a small room at the current location of GI Joe headquarters. Shaking her head, Helix exclaimed in an agitated voice, "I can't believe that we've been sidelined Snake. We are two of G.I. Joe's best operatives and we are sitting on our hands because we are too aggressive and independent. We see a problem or opportunity and we act on it. We have had numerous successes and our reward is to be reprimanded." Snake Eyes remained motionless, not acknowledging Helix's comments. Helix paused for a moment and then in a quieter voice continued. "I also can't believe that Quick Kick beat you in fight. I know he has skills but I never thought that a martial artist and former stuntman could beat a combat seasoned commando who was the greatest member of the deadliest ninja clan to ever exist. I mean, I have beaten numerous martial arts experts, and yet I have seen you do things that I thought were humanly impossible. Yet you lost, and the worst part was his arrogance and constant trash talking during the fight." Then, almost haltingly, Helix stated, "I also never thought that I would see you on your knees with your hands up quitting the fight. I never ever saw you quit, not once." Still Snake Eyes did not respond, or even indicate that he was listening. "I know Scarlett never cared for me, but she owes you her life several times over. I thought she would cut you some slack. I know Quick Kick issued the challenge, but Scarlett brought him in to do it." Finally, in an exasperated voice, Helix blurted out, "Are you even listening to me?" Upon closer inspection Helix noticed that Snake Eyes was intently looking at a read out on the electronic device that attached to his forearm. Though Snake Eyes was known to keep his thoughts to himself, Helix could almost feel an intense glare form beneath his masked visage. She wondered what could keep him so fixated. Then in a fluid motion Snake Eyes stood, turned, and strode out of the room. Helix quickly got to her feet and hurried after him. "Snake, what is going on?", she exclaimed in an exasperated voice. Snake Eyes reached the motor pool and was entering one of the Vamp jeeps parked there. Almost simultaneously the door to the garage bay opened and in drove a contingent of Joes, including Scarlett, Rock N Roll, Roadblock, and Quick Kick. "What's going on here?", Scarlett questioned in her formal, none too pleased voice. Before, anyone could answer, Quick Kick yelled in a loud voice, " Isn't it obvious? Once again he is disobeying orders, and doing whatever he wants." Snake Eyes turned to continue entering the jeep without giving Quick Kick a second glance. "Do you have short term memory loss?" Quick Kick bellowed, his hands outstretched to emphasize his bewilderment. "Have you forgotten our last fight? I can give you a reminder if you need it." Getting no response from Snake Eyes, Quick Kick forcibly grabbed Snake Eyes arm. Faster than the eye can see, Snake eyes delivered a three inch palm strike to Quick Kick's sternum, sending him tumbling backwards while he frantically tried to regain his balance. "So, that's how you want it?" Quick Kick snarled. "I showed you once who's the best and I'll do it again." Quick Kick swiftly moved forward and pushed off one foot effortlessly sending his body into the air. At the same time, He shot out his opposite leg in a fast, powerful jumping round house kick. The kick would have knocked Snake Eyes senseless, had it landed, but almost without effort Snake Eyes evaded the strike, and wound up to the rear of Quick Kick. Quick Kick's face briefly registered puzzlement at hitting nothing but air, but his recovery was fast. Upon landing on both feet, he immediately shot out a side kick aimed at Snake Eyes chest. Snake Eyes angled his body slightly and the kick soared pass him by no more than an inch. Quick Kick followed up with two rapid hand strikes, but Snake Eyes parried them almost leisurely. Rising to anger, Quick Kick shouted, "Are you going to keep running away, or are you actually going to fight?" And with that challenge, Snake Eyes shifted from defense to offense. Snake Eyes threw a low Muay Thai shin kick to the inside of Quick Kick's lead leg thigh buckling the leg. As Quick Kick tried to respond with a punch, Snake Eyes struck the nerve center between the bicep and tricep, and the arm went dead. Having moved close in to Quick Kick, Snake Eyes threw an upward vertical elbow strike to Quick Kick's solar plexus, knocking the wind out of him. Snake Eyes then rotated his torso bringing his other elbow in a horizontal strike to Quick Kick's jaw. Quick Kick stumbled awkwardly, which allowed Snake Eyes to grab Quick Kick's arm in one hand, and his shirt in the other hand. In one fluid motion Snake Eyes pulled Quick Kick forward, turned his back to Quick Kick, and then lifted him up and over Snake Eyes' own head, ending with a thudding slam to the ground in a textbook judo throw. Quick Kick appeared stunned and unable to move when Snake Eyes stepped on Quick's wrist with one foot and then placed his other knee on Quick Kick's sternum. Snake Eyes seized quick's trachea in one hand, and then cocked back his other as if to administer a final blow. Quick Kick's eyes opened wide with the realization that he was powerless to prevent whatever followed next. Likewise, all the other Joes in the room stood stock still in silence trying to process what they saw and weighing whether to step in to prevent additional harm to Quick Kick. Slowly, Snake Eyes rose and turned his back on Quick Kick knowing that his opponent could no longer mount an attack. Quick stared after Snake Eyes, and croaked one word, "How?" He could not comprehend how the battle had gone so wrong so quickly. Snake Eyes stopped and began tapping furiously on his electronic device. Immediately a message appeared on Helix's corresponding electronic device. Helix read the message out loud. "I knew Scarlett was going to bench me and maybe she felt she needed to do it. I also knew at that moment that she had brought you in to replace me. When you issued the challenge, I knew that you needed to have the confidence that you could handle anything out there. I wanted you to go out and use your peak abilities., so I gave you the victory you desired." "Now I have to go and I can't let you stop me. What I did to you will not cause permanent injury, and maybe this will teach you the humility you need to reach your full potential." Scarlett spoke up. "Ok, you beat Quick Kick, but that doesn't mean I can have you ignoring my orders, even if I do owe my life to you more than once. Again, I ask you, what is going on?" Snake Eyes started tapping furiously again. When he was done, Scarlett looked at her communicator and then it was her turn to read out loud. "The Hard Master is in grave danger and has requested my help. He has never done so before, and I need to go". Scarlett looked at Snake Eyes, and quietly said, "I understand. Go. But, when you get back, we needed to have a serious talk about how we are going to work together from here on out." Snake Eyes nodded, and Scarlett knew that he would keep his word. Snake Eyes entered the Vamp and drove off, leaving the others to help Quick Kick to a siting position. All of them stared after Snake Eyes, wondering just how deep did his skills and abilities went, and could they ever truly harness them for the benefit of G.I. Joe. |

Great read, and it really emphasized the difference between Quick Kick's skill as a master martial artist and Snake Eyes skill as a master assassin.

Thanks for the feedback and I am glad that you enjoyed it. By the way, your Snake Eyes signature montage is awesome.

Again, thanks for the praise. The story I was referring to happened in the last Gi Joe series. I didn't care for how both Snake Eyes and Quick Kick were portrayed and the way the fight was plotted and concluded. |
