Well if you would have attempted this project 20 years ago you would have had nothing compared to today's War on Terror. Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Sri Lanka, The fall of the Soviet Union modern day Piracy, and the Global Economy make for great resources of events.
Sure it will be "dated" when our Grandkids are born, but if we ever make it to world peace we have to get through this mess we're in now! |

Given the events of the last 10 years, it only makes sense to include some combat experience in the files. It doesn't have to be specific references to particular battles, just noting that characters served in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., is enough. it should serve to make the characters "feel" more "realistic".

In my estimation, the project is already dated by you syncing up the particular skills, uniforms, equipment, vehicles and weapons to current operational requirements. You put a considerable amount of effort into making everything accurate to how things would work today. In five years, many things will be dated anyways. So I say go for it and include as many date references as you like.
And if you're bored ten years from now, you can always update the (ir)relevant parts. ;-) |

I think it's only natural to include real world events in a Joeverse. Maybe not individual battles or skirmishes, but the overall conflicts.

That's ambitious and I like the idea of incorporating the new characters from newer media. We already have Night Fox, Tomahawk and Kickstart.
I know you used Sandstorm and Icestorm already.

I should have known you already had your sights on doing more.

I personally wouldn't want to see this at all, but especially in the case of KIA Joes. Even if they are fictitious characters, it seems disrespectful. Honor the Joe and retire the name. |
