There's a couple of great examples with some posters on the 'Tank on why adult toy collecting is looked upon as weird in this neck of the world.
That's a great idea Loose on doing at least one "Then" figure every once in awhile, but then people would still bitch and moan. One of the other Mods once said that alot of people have this sense of entitlement, that only their wants matter. I was genuinely excited when the Toy Fair pics came and the negativity disappeared. But then it went right back down again the next day. And I can point out the same people doing the same things. But then there's threads like this, the filecard one, the various fanfics, that make coming here worthwhile and make dealing with the stereotypical fanboys easier.

No wonder Hasbro can't "get it right". There's so many different opinions and dislikes of what they do, that if the designers read these threads they must slap their foreheads and say, "WTF?" Everyone's entitled to their opinion. There's stuff I like and that I don't like. I'm an adult collector, so my time and money are limited. I get the stuff I like, and don't get the stuff I don't like. Hasbro doesn't owe me anything. The toys and cartoons are mainly for kids. If people dont want 10,000,000 SE's in their collections, then don't buy them. I'm like a lot of you guys. I check out the file card thread, fan fic, customs, and this one. I enjoy having rational discussions, not "Hate this" or "That sucks". And no, the irony's not lost on me.

But yeah, the danger in "hating the haters" or "complaining about complaining" or whatever it is that the kids call it is that it very quickly turns into the same thing one is being critical about. As with many things, a Nietzsche passage taken wholly out-of-context (ha ha) says it best: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Back on topic. Where's some new stuff.
Was looking thru the album last night. Looked like might have made some changes to some of the Joes?

Maybe I'll start a "Bill of Rights" Thread. See where it goes. Only realistic and fair Amendments. Three Yays and it gets considered on a final document.
nah! Too much work. Sounds like being a crack dealer, you have to hang out with crackheads. It's probably against the rules anyway, not to mention pointless. How many ARAH joes still need to be done with ME articulation? 50? 60? |

Not really looking to post new stuff this week, at least until Friday or so... as I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm a little burnt out on the enterprise, and I'm taking a few days off the project to recharge my creative batteries (I've been working at least an hour a day on it for almost a year now, except for that three week stretch in December where I attended to other matters). |

At least that. But really, out of that number, probably only half of them would sell reasonably (and by reasonably, I mean "more than 1000 units"). I just can't imagine there being a demand for a 25th/ME style Effects or Ice Cream Soldier, at least not for $8 and up

Yeah, the whole "market" for making ARAH Joes into ME format is a dying market really. Eventually it'll reach the point where there is no more to make, and that's even if they go into the years with Sidetrack, Crossfire, Wet-Down and Double Blast.
What the people that keep saying "ditch RoC and just do 25th" don't realize is that once they get what they want, then what? Where does Joe go from there? So they're satisfied. Great. Because you were so uppity about getting just what you want, the brand missed a great chance to grow and develop new fans. Nostaglia, as great as it is, doesn't grow the brand. It just lets it get to a point and then eventually wither and die. Now PoC is great. Taking existing and new characters and really giving them a make over. Not just a basic costume change like Resolute but a true make over. It's great.

I can't say any of the ridiculously colored Joes from the ARAH line are worth making, unless they use some of your designs Zulu.
Like Sky Patrol without the silver! Most of the late 80s vehicle drivers. |

Here's a question I've been pondering the past couple of days. How would you guys feel about my inclusion and referencing of real dates and events in the GI Joe and Cobra reference bibles? One of the problems I kept encountering whilst writing the profiles and in fleshing out the agency history is that by going temporally-neutral in tone, I found it quite difficult to instill a certain level of veracity in the writing. The lack of any firm temporal reference in the text stands out like a sore thumb. I know when I first started this project, my goal was to come up with a take on the Joes disconnected from events that we identified with certain characters and made them somewhat dated and impossibly un-aging as time went along (e.g., the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the US invasion of Grenada). But now, I'm beginning to realize that to make the Joes temporally disconnected, I have to make their descriptions and profiles sufficiently vague, which I don't like at all (and I imagine most of you wouldn't like that either). Anyway, I'm pretty much set in what direction I want to take the writing, but I wanted to hear your opinions (if any) on the issue before I proceed. |
