Well, here are my attempts at making an updated version of Action Force (GI Joe's international counterpart):
Eagle & Big Ben Design notes:
To read their full filecards, click on the link in my signature. I've formatted the Action Force filecards to look like a cross between the traditional GI Joe filecards and the original 1984 Action Force filecards (the ones printed with blue ink). BIG BEN!!!!
He looks awesome. The last Joe I ever bought (up until 2008) and always one of my favorites. Awesome job Zulu. Eagle looks pretty good as well. Here's a thought. The symbol of the US is the Bald Eagle, the US Joe team's leader is named Hawk, the international teams leader is named Eagle.... Shouldn't it have been the other way around?

Excellent Zulu, wasn't familiar with Eagle, looks great though! Really diggin the updated look on Big Ben, looks perfect except for one small thing. If he's only wearing one knee pad and he's right handed, the knee pad is on the wrong leg, small detail but I know your a super detail oriented dude so just thought I'd give ya a heads up. Keep em coming man, great work!

Heh. Good point. The original Action Force had a pretty good comic going (at least from what little of the original black & white strips I've read) but they pretty much borked it when they started integrating the Action Force comics stuff with Marvel's GI Joe book (e.g., Red Laser becoming Cobra Commander, Red Jackal becoming Destro, UK versions of Duke, Flint and others showing up and replacing the old Palitoy characters). I liked it better when Action Force was a separate unit from GI Joe that just happened to have a toyline based on the Hasbro GI Joe molds (that way, one could always hold out the hope that there would be an Action Force/GI Joe crossover), and not an "internationalised" version of the same old GI Joe characters with the same codenames (and even the same filecards... they just changed the birthplaces!).

Wow Zulu Eagle and Big Ben look great. I agree Action Force was pretty good until Baron Iron Blood became Cobra Commander.

Thanks man. I don't think it was Baron Ironblood who became Cobra Commander though, it was Red Laser (one of his underlings... the toy was a Cobra Commander repaint). Ironblood (along with The Black Major) basically disappeared in the comics once Marvel UK took over the Action Force comics.

Awesome work as usual Zulu, just a query though. On Eagle's filecard you have him listed as a Capt but according to your organization chart he's a Colonel.
Btw I love the way you've adopted the SAS / Delta troop model and integrated Mtn troop with Intel and Recon. Class work. I follow the SAS model in organizing my Joes since Delta was modeled after the SAS. |

I really like what you've done with Eagle and Big Ben. I don't know much about the Action Force, but Eagle looks great regardless (a lot better than his generic origins). Eagle sort of has a seasoned, calm, gentlemanly badassedness to him. Certainly fitting for a British specops officer. I'm also digging how you worked Big Ben's bandolier in there as well. After looking at your Action Force filecards, I'm almost saddened that the Joes cards have such an icon look to them and not many people would want you to deviate from them. The Action Force cards have a sleek look and the font is easier on the eyes than the Joes cards which force the reader to align the letters themselves. I personally wouldn't mind seeing an updated font on the Joes cards (who uses a typewriter anymore these days?).
Once again, I love the SAS format to the team, and the fewer characters has also forced you to use the ones you do have (almost) all in leadership roles. It makes me want to redo my Joe team (AGAIN! lol) as a mix of your Action Force setup (fewer named characters all taking up leadership roles, airborne/amphibious/mobility direct action troop functions and LRRP teams assigned to the intelligence sections) and your Joe setup (direct action headquarters, command and control section and support platoons, and combined aviation section). It'll let me focus on the earlier lineup, make fewer customs (and save money, ha!), but still have a Joe team that would still be operationally feasible from an organizational and manpower standpoint. I didn't I comment on Scalpel (I know I saw him a while before he was posted, so I kinda forgot), but as usual, he looks awesome. He had a pretty nice design going for him to begin with, but you streamlined all of the unnecessary elements out. He looks less like an overblown horror movie character and now he resembles a truly chilling, real-world, amoral surgeon (which is scarier, since he looks like someone one might initially trust). Although the Action Force stuff is cool, I hope you make your way back to Cobra soon. I'm dying to see some of the other top guys, and I thought you were really starting to hit your groove with them.
