Soooo cold. The house's furnace is on the fritz... I've done everything I know to fix it, checked the wiring on the thermostat, changed the airflow filters, manually re-set the breakers, checked the gas flow, but it keeps dying on me after 15 minutes of running. I checked the control panel and my interpretation of the LED light indicator pattern is that the 115VAC polarity is reversed. I have no idea what could have happened to cause that, but it looks like we'll have to call in a (very expensive) furnace tech. With it being winter and all, I'm sure we'll end up having to pay through the arsehole for repairs. Arrrgh.
Anyway, enough of me venting, on to your comments: Thanks! Quote:

Thanks! Yeah, Ving Rhames is a pretty close real world analogue for Roadblock, face-wise. Much better than the Shaq head I used for the earlier version of the image. Quote:

Fast-Draw-Wow anything is an improvement on that guy. I currently use the DTC Grand-Slam as Fast-Draw since it's a decent figure and I like GS in silver pads. Plus Fast-Draw is a terrible figure. I was wondering about the FGM-148? I love it but why not a MAAWS as well?

Repeater is Tom Morello? To me he's still a white guy, but he looks good. Did he have a Steady Cam gun before? I never liked that hook on his waist so I cut it off. But Repeater was one of my favorite figures that year along with Muskrat when Hasbro started to lose it's way.

Rock 'n' Roll: Perfect update. This is how you tackle characters who have multiple, iconic looks. You combined the best aspects of the 82 and 89 looks. I would've liked to have seen some tats on the arms, though (speaking of tats, if Shipwreck's sleeves were rolled, we could see that iconic anchor tat)!
Stone, Sidetrack & Topson: I love all three of these. Stone in particular looks like the guy the cartoons tried to push on us as Duke. Steeler & Short-Fuze: Wonderful job on both of these guys. I'm happy to see that you've given more respect to the O-13 by promoting them where possible up to leaders of their respective subunits. Steeler's skin tone seems a bit dark, though. Fast Draw: Looks incredible. I like the added heft and bulkiness you added to this version. It brings him more in line with the original figure, combining uniqueness with plausibility. Gung-Ho, Recondo, Dusty, Beach Head, Outback, Recoil, Sub-Zero, Salvo, Repeater & Tunnel Rat: Really nice updates that bring each character more in line with their original figures, and the Crye camo looks slick on everyone that has it. Not only that, but it helps to tie a lot of the guys together visually. I'm also happy to see you find a workaround for the desert themed Army Joes. Will Spearhead be getting the same treatment as Dusty and Repeater? I hope so. The only thing that bugs me about this group is something seems to be off about the Tunnel Rat head/face. Rampart & Snowstorm: I feel like both of these were steps away from earlier designs that worked better. The loss of the green spats and the windbreaker really take away from his look. Rampart's last design was pitch perfect and specop-ing that one up would have worked better, IMO. Snowstorm's new design looks cooler (the hood and face are too cool), but the lack of white and the visor hurts this one. I'd still love to see this FPS design somewhere, but perhaps it would be better served for one of the Plastirama/Bronze Bombers characters. Duke & Roadblock: I'm really torn on these. Each of these guys is a perfect re-imagination of their original looks, and could be classed with the Recondo, Beachhead, etc. group. The issue that I end up having is that they, like Rock 'n' Roll, have multiple iconic looks. I wish you would've done more to integrate those other looks. It seems like as you endeavored to get more of the original critical elements in (the right faces for both, Duke's proper pants, Block's camo shirt), you lost some of the cool stuff that came later (the tactical vests that came on the second version of each, Block's rolled shoulder t-shirt, gloves). The synthesis of iconic looks is something I hope you'll revisit for these two, and take into consideration for others later on (Snake Eyes most notably). All in all, I can tell you've really hit a stride. You pump these things out faster than ever before, and the quality of the images has improved significantly. Some of it could be attributed to your new monitor, but your comfort level with the program and experience shows through just as much. Kudos. |

I'll definitely be taking that approach when I re-do Snake-Eyes though, since like most of the people here, I owned multiple versions of the character's toys. Thank you very much for taking the time to post your thoughts on these latest images, I really appreciate it. |

When did he get forearm tattoos? Got a link to the pics? I'd have liked to put some ink on more Joes (being a tattoo and body art aficionado myself), but outside of Gung-Ho, Shipwreck, Steamroller, and the Arashikage guys (and gal), I can't remember any other Joes with distinctly identifiable tattoos and I don't want to arbitrarily issue tattoos to Joes without some basis in their toy or media portrayals.
Looking forward to seeing you jazz up those flames (I know they couldn't get too fancy in the animation art). RnR seems like the type to have "sleeves", honestly. Quote:
I'm still waiting on the final images of the UCP-D/"Coyote" ACU camo to leak out to an open source media outlet so that I can use it for Spearhead. I want to reserve the Crye AOR1 camo patterned BDU's for Army guys like Dusty and Repeater (distinct desert specialists and somewhat senior Rangers), just to make it more "special." If the UCP-D pattern isn't revealed by this time next week, though, I'll probably just use the leaked prototype images as the basis for how I'll be re-colouring Spearhead's uniform.
Quote:
As for Snowstorm, I was trying to get a "visor effect" with the hood on his PCU pulled down to shade his eyes (having a cold weather warrior wear a clear ballistic face shield, which is prone to frosting and ice/snow accumulation, just doesn't make a whole lot of sense). I'm definitely going to add some more white and blue highlights to his overall uniform, thanks for the suggestion.

I'll probably be settling on Duke's and Roadblock's current looks for now, although I understand what you mean by integrating multiple iconic looks. I guess my decision to go with their earliest designs stems from my exposure to the characters... I don't really identify with any of their other, later designs (unlike Rock 'n' Roll), but that might change.

I'm really hoping we get that Resolute Rock 'n Roll in the Resolute pack that's coming.

Hooray! We've got the heat back on (turned out the furnace has a busted ingniter, which is a small solace, because it's way cheaper to replace it than replacing the whole control board... which would have cost upwards of $500). No more working on the images while covered in blankets.

Hopefully, some of the unproduced Resolute figures we've seen leaked on pics and sold on eBay (like Resolute Storm-Shadow, Scarlett, Destro, and Baroness) show up in a second Resolute-themed pack. |

Well, it looks like the final (more-or-less) pattern for the "Coyote" ACU/UCP-D has been approved. It doesn't look like it'll work as a real-world analogue for Spearhead's orange cammies, but at least, it's a much, much better stand-in for BattleForce 2000's Blocker's brown and gray gear:
Blocker I'll probably be re-making Spearhead in Crye's AOR1 camo instead, although I might still mock-up an image of him in UCP-D, as my opinion on its suitability might change with a test image. Last edited by zuludelta; 12-05-2009 at 04:22 AM.. |

Awesome updates Zulu, I love Roadblock and Blocker. Sub Zero and Snow Storm are top notch too. If Hasbro actually made a Fast Draw that looked like yours he'd never be at the bottom of the play jar like he was when I was a kid
Glad you got your heat back too. Must admit I'm still jealous, I'm sweating my @$$ off here in Oz, long for winter already... |

As for the summer weather over there, that's nothing a beer or five probably won't fix By the way, I've updated my Rampart image to take into account Master Thespian's suggestions. Look at him here (if you don't have it set to do so at regular intervals, you'll have to clear your browser's image cache for it to show up). One thing that I wanted to change was the headgear. The original toy had him wearing what looked like a sun visor over a hoodie. In my initial attempt to re-create him, I went with a be-flapped desert/beach hat. But I just wasn't too happy with it, as it made him look too much like a civilian beach patrol guy. Much happier with what I have now, replacing the hoodie with a keffiyeh/shemagh and the sun visor with a mocked up tactical goggles/visor combo. |
