I guess that makes sense, but the answer kind of surprised me. Cool beans. I typed that response a few hours ago and checked the page in between UFC 104 fights. I had to hit reply and run back to the tv. I completely forgot about the Sharpe Transformers connection.

I liked the original Cover Girl you had, but this update is great. I agree, having that around the motor pool will get some attention.
The others are pretty cool. I'm still not liking the new Scarlett. The face is just too harsh for me.

Spent the past few days re-working the organizational outline. One thing I think I was missing was a domestic aspect to the Joe team. In the comics, the Joes would frequently deploy and operate within the United States (not just for training or movement), in direct contravention of the Posse Comitatus Act. Initially, I just ignored that aspect of the Joe team and built "my" version of the Joe team as a purely expeditionary force under JSOC (similar to Delta Force or DEVGRU). But the more I thought about it, the more I felt that by doing so, I was losing some of the spirit of the original concept by modeling the Joe team too closely to existing real-world counterterrorism units. Anyway, I dug up my old copy of Tom Clancy's Op-Center, thinking that it would provide a nice plausible framework to build a mdoern GI Joe team around. I've since decided to make the Joe team a government agency that answers directly to the President (as opposed to one that is under the control of JSOC), similar to how the CIA works, although its component elements are still governed by the rules and laws of their source departments and organizations: the DoD-sourced military personnel are still covered by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Posse Comitatus Act, only the federal law enforcement personnel are allowed to conduct operations within the US' borders, and only the CIA-sourced personnel are allowed to conduct legally deniable covert operations.
Here's how I've got it set up (click on the thumbnail to view the full diagram): I've finally found revision C of the MIL-STD guide for battlefield graphics, so I've updated some of the symbols in the above diagram to be more in line with what's currently in use. Nice as always Zulu. I like Blocker alot. Like how you tried to incorporate Blaster's helmet (I always liked Blaster from BF2000).
Like Mariner. He always struck me as "could be cool" but only made the one panel appearance.

Great stuff, z! No problems on any of these guys. The BF2000 guys look really good, as does Gears. I like how you take those crazy ass helmets from back in the day and make them work. The JvC/ST/VvV era (we really need a good abbreviation for that time period, geez) are all really nice updates. Nothing to say about Golden other than I'm glad someone on the team is wearing that type of uniform now that Shipwreck is more associated with the watchcap and sweater.
I'm really happy to see you reworked your team to include a domestic component. Now they're really the best of (all) the best. Able to operate anywhere or deny certain missions, they really now feel like more special team, instead of a Delta-type of group tasked to Cobra. Now they can chase down their targets anywhere they try to hide. I can't wait to see where everyone falls in. EDIT: I am confused about how the pieces fit together. Who is calling the shots overall for the unit? Last edited by Master Thespian; 10-29-2009 at 01:21 PM.. |
