Great find Loose. Haven't finished reading through it all (jumped right to the section about capability metrics). Interesting how far apart the current Army helicopter fleet's capabilites are (whose useful ferrying range is only 120 nautical miles) compared to the future JHL concept they're banking on being developed a decade from now (which is supposed to have a ferrying range of 500 nautical miles). That's a huge leap in fuel economy for a large rotor-driven aircraft (to put it into context, the current world record for the longest full-tank-no-refueling helicopter flight is 1923 nautical miles, and this was using a prototype 500 kg OH-6 Cayuse carrying just a pilot and no cargo).

Yeah I wonder where they looking at getting those numbers. 500 miles?
Maybe? I guess it'll be huge? Although it looks like a badass toy! |

I'm guessing 500 nautical miles is an overestimate on their part. So even if they fall well short of the target (say, an effective ferrying range of 250 nautical miles, twice that of the current heliopter fleet but half that of the putative and theoretical JHL), it'll still be loads better than current capability.

These all look great Zulu. I like the new Hacker. Don't get rid of the old one though he might make a good Bullhorn if you haven't done him yet. Is Motorhead the Mechanic?

Thanks man. As for Motorhead, I'm using him as one of the guys on the Signal Support team, which ties into Metalhead's role as GI Joe Extreme's communications whiz. The "motor" in his code name ahs more to do with his being a fan of heavy metal (Lemmy/Motorhead) than his job specialty.

Nice job Zulu. I always liked the name "Major Barrage". Barrage works good as a standalone name, but Storm always needed the Major attached to make it work good. Stormer is a good name.

A bunch of name changes in this update (every single one of which is fitting and better for it).
Another great round of work, z! |

Thanks for the comments guys!
@Master Thespian: Good catch with the vest on both Stormer and Barrage. I was working from memory with regards to Stormer and the Yojoe.com pic of the Major Barrage figure's vest had it looking black. A cursory look at the Major Barrage figures for sale on ebay shows that it's more of a brown shade, however. Pics updated to reflect those changes (you might need to clear your browser's image cache to see the updated images). |
