Great job filling out the team with credible characters that not only look cool, but feel like they belong. It's nice to see you going back and getting those 82-87 characters even closer to their most famous designs (I see you changed Scarlett's hair to a ponytail). Will you be redoing Shipwreck? To me, he's the only really famous character who's look doesn't really fit either of his truly notable looks: the sailor or the DDP style SEAL. I'd love to see that DDP SEAL look, as I think that has really taken over as his default look in the way that the 86 Hawk version is the one we associate with that character. |

Oh, and as for the bubblegum, I tried it in an earlier version of the image, but I had difficulty making it work. I think it's because a soldier blowing a bubble is such an unusual visual, that the fact that it's what he's actually doing takes time to register (and I'm a Joe fan! I think somebody unfamiliar with the comic book Breaker's bubblegum-chewing habit would have even a more difficult time making out what it is on his mouth without some textual explanation). Yeah, that's something Spigou mentioned to me in conversation, and I agree with him, she looks much improved with the ponytail. Quote:

I've been toying with the idea of replacing the "green commando sweater" with the light multicam shirt. I'd already started doing so with Stalker, and Breaker is the second member of the be-sweatered Original 13 (outside of Scarlett) that I've done up in the multicam shirt.

It works on Stalker, since he never actually had the sweater in toy form, but I really like the solid, forest green sweater. In a world of guys clad in various kinds camo, it helps to set the O-13 apart (and they really need it). I found your sweater/digicam combo really nice and unique, which was something most of the O-13 never got. It sets them apart from guys like Falcon and Hit n Run who are clad in the multicam pattern.

I've updated the pics to take into account most of the suggestions in this thread (you guys will probably need to refresh the page/clear your browser cache to see the new pics): Went back to the commando sweater look for Breaker (no bubblegum, though, just wasn't feeling it). Also replaced 411's RoC eyepiece with a Nikon head mounted PMP/UMP, just to stay within the bounds of my self-imposed parameters of using real-world equipment. Updated Shortburst with a number of minor changes. |

Just a small preview of the organizational diagrams I'll be making (click on the thumbnail for a larger picture):
What that basically says is that the GI Joe team is a battalion sized airborne-capable special operations forces unit composed of a platoon-sized headquarters, a company sized support unit, a company-sized ground combat unit, and a flight-sized fixed-wing utility unit. I'll be expanding the individual elements, of course, and I'll be using a combination of NATO APP-6A symbols and DoD MIL-STD-2525A symbols as appropriate (in the above example, for instance, I used the NATO "SPT" modifier for the support unit, because MIL-STD-2525A convention doesn't really have a modifier to indicate a mixed combat support/combat service support unit).
