I don't think I'll be cutting out characters I've already previewed/made filecards for (I'll be changing duties, ranks for a good number of them, though), but don't hold me to that, as I haven't looked at the manning numbers yet. I'm keeping a copy of the old roster and the notes I've written around them and posting them later today, just so you can see how ridiculously unwieldy it had gotten. I actually ran out of "named Joes" and started using the Bronze Bombers, Fumbles (from the Robot Chicken GI Joe spoof skit), Ninja Force, and a renamed Fridge (I called him Icebox) to fill in certain roster spots .

Ouch. Other than Fumbles. That guy is deadly. Ninja Force + The Fridge = Terribad.

Heh. Didn't notice that. Anyway, I'm torpedoing all the half-assed concessions I tried to make for current Army structure and going back to the lighter and sleeker (and in my mind, better) structure I started out with. I think that's also part of the reason why the roster I'm using ballooned the way it did in recent months.
You're right... past a certain point, the Joe team should have its own structural identity distinct from current existing light infantry battalion sized units. Trying to read through the link about the Forward Support Company, I can see too many High ranking Joes being a problem. They would most likely ride a desk at Brigade Level, but I can imagine the Joes being such an elite unit, that they would require men of high standing to get things done easier. Each man would function as a unit multiplier and that would take effect in every position on the team. Including Support guys. Sure the core of the Team are all badass Assaulters and Direct action Guys. And a team of 4 would be as good as a 2 Squads. But Guys like Courage should be able to pick up a radio and call in all the units he needs so as not to lose an advantage. |

Finally finished the GI Joe organizational outline. Basically spent every spare waking minute I had the past week-and-half squaring away details, ensuring that the units I sourced the Joes from match with the training they have listed in the filecards I wrote for them or plan to write for them.
GI Joe organizational document (374 Mb, 26 pages in standard letter size, .PDF file format, via sendspace) There are a number of inconsistencies between the document and the filecards I have hosted on my photobucket account (accessible via the link in my signature). There's no need to point them out to me for now as I've taken note of them all and will correct them in time, but don't hesitate to point out any glaring typographical errors (not errors of content) if you come across any. I plan on updating the filecards as time allows, but right now, I'm just so exhausted from digging up and reading through unit TOEs I think I'm going to swear off anything GI Joe-related (except for posting on HISStank and Joeuniverse.com, of course) for at least a few days. I plan on making a filecard and image for every single character listed on there eventually, so I'll need to get my second wind. Last edited by zuludelta; 09-27-2009 at 03:45 PM.. That is awesome Zulu. I like how you've changed some of the NInja Force guys code names to make them work better.
I also like the inclusion of some of the Argen 7 and Bronze Bombers. So many Easter eggs too. I'll have to read it a bit more in depth when I get home but my personal favourite so far has to be Jonesy..real name James Earl! Awesome work |

First of all, you're insane. INSANE. Phenomenal work bringing everything together. The most impressive thing to me is that you finally just said "fuck it" and resolved all of those niggling little things that didn't work (redundancies, lack of and/or stupid codenames, lame origins). The chart looks great, the research is astounding, and the placement of every SINGLE Joe feels appropriate. I really appreciate that appendix section and I love the introduction. For the first time, I look at this and completely happy with every single choice you've made. I can't blame in the slightest for taking time off. The amount of dedication it took to get to this point is amazing. I'd love it if you went straight to the new characters and left the updating of old characters until you release the bible, but I know you have borderline OCD and can't do that. :P
Once again: INCREDIBLE. *You used the term October Guard in the intro when it should have been GI Joe and you have Scarlett's rank as both O-3 and W-3. I'll PM any more errors if I find them. |

I don't know, really, but what I do know is that I would have been bothered to no end by the idea of not putting in the appropriate amount of detail in the work. Quote:

Would anybody else care that I ensured that Alpine and Hit & Run came from infantry units subordinate to the 10th Mountain Division? Would anybody notice that Harpoon (Jose Montalvo) came from the Navy's only SEAL Team with a certified foreign language capability in Spanish?

EDIT: If you missed it in the two posts I edited above, I've updated the document to a more home printer-friendly format (8.5" x 11"). GI Joe organizational document (374 Mb, 26 pages in standard letter size, .PDF file format, via sendspace)
