Tracking might be a bit much, but I do check it before I come here. Sometimes you update the cards but don't post the updates here. It's also a way to sometimes see those preliminary designs (and often catch some cool elements that you later remove). I basically come to the topic to comment and read all of that background info that you type up; it's like having the liner notes to an album, or commentary on a DVD (I really hope you're saving all of this stuff for inclusion somehow!).
What can I say? I'm a fan. |

Here's a preview of the roster tables I'm working on (click on the thumbnail to view the larger image in a new tab/window):
I'm about halfway done with the roster tables, but have yet to edit the text pieces and the appendices. And of course, I'll be replacing most, if not all, of the generic roster entries with "named" Joes (not entirely sure if I'll do images and filecards for all of the new extra Joes I'll be incorporating though, that's easily 30 more, I think). I updated a number of files to coincide with the new info I've placed in the roster tables, kjust can't remember which ones they are right now. Nothing major, though, just something for those obsessed with accuracy and detail. |

I definitely like the initial layout. I'm especially grateful for the originating unit column (so I wouldn't have to constantly reference the filecards when looking at the chart). Naturally, being a greedy observer, I'd love to see images and filecards for every Joe, but if you're starting to get burned out, don't overextend yourself. Just one suggestion:
Color Scheme Designer 3 Go there and you get some instant color scheme ideas to really make those charts pop. I know you can see the finish line and have to be getting antsy! |

I have to use InDesign at work and it's a bitch. It's very powerful but very finicky as well. I work as a data analyst and one day there were some spare spots on a training course so my boss said, "Hey why don't you go for the hell of it?". 1 year later I've become the go to guy despite not actually have a required use for it in my job. Sigh.
I help people every now and then create govt forms and pamphlets but occasionally I play around with it to create things to amuse myself...like gag birthday cards etc. |

That roster preview is looking pretty sweet. Can't wait to see it when it's completed.

Yeah, I used it before for making publication layouts and signage design, it's a neat proggie but I'd say over half of the features on it go unused in a typical small business graphic design or desktop publishing setting. Not worth the major bucks for the amateur or semi-professional graphic artist. I've been able to recreate everything I need to do in InDesign with Photoshop (a program I'm very much comfortable in), though, and the combination of Photoshop and PDFTK (a free .pdf tool kit) and Scribus (an open-source InDesign alternative) allows me to create just about anything that InDesign can output.
