Well, I've settled on a regional politico-economic alliance that can account for the existence of a modern-day October Guard: the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Organization.
The BSEC counts Russia, the Ukraine and Georgia among its members, so Brekhov (Ukraine), Red Star (Ukraine), Lt. Gorky (Russia), Dragonsky (Russia), Stormavik (Russia), Sgt. Misha (Russia), Big Bear (Russia), and Horror-Show (Georgia) are covered. Additionally, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Energy Charter Treaty organization (of which the People's Republic of China is an official observer) are recognized "observer states/organizations" of the BSEC, so Vorona's, Schrage's, and Wong's membership in the October Guard can be rationalised as well. I can see the October Guard acting as a squad-sized special operations unit specialising in sensitive anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations, protecting BSEC assets in the Black Sea, Central Asia, and Eurasian region whilst using BLACKSEAFOR logistics and administrative resources. Still not sure how I'll square the SAS guys. I'm leaning towards getting the SAS Force personnel born in NATO-member nations from Action Force and conflating them with the SAS characters from the ARAH toyline and the comics (Big Ben, Jingles, Sgt. Day) and using them as a scaled-down, troop-sized Action Force, vetted by NATO. Thanks! Also when you say SAS Acton Force and adding the other 3 how many is that? But what about the rest of the European members of Action Force? Just leave them out? |

Nice compromise, z.
I'm with you on this one. Don't forget about Skymate(hook) and Backstop. |

I've considered it, but I've pretty much settled into the idea that he's working with Mercer and Red Dog in the Joe's Clandestine Service Cell.

As part of my attempt at filling out the history of the GI Joe organisation, I'm thinking of integrating Larry Hama's Fury Force as the modern GI Joe team's Cold War-predecessor. Here's a brief rundown of whom I'm considering to fill the roles of the "original seven":

interesting. So what ranks will they have?
Such a cool way to integrate the older members. It would make for a great origins story for Marvel with people other than those related to Snake-Eyes. But I love the Blind Master touch. kind of like a Sgt Fury comic. It's too bad John Do and Robert Light can't be guys from later Marvel Years. One possiblity for could be Snake-Eyes sister's fiance. His name escapes me now but he turned up later as a CIA agent or something, and bailed them out. Can't remember if he died or not. Don't know about John Do unless he is Firefly. Demolitions Expert? Haven't worked it out yet. Flagg would probably be a major or a senior captain, Colton would be a young-ish captain. Everybody else would be enlisted.

Here's the unit insignia for the October Guard: I've managed to find a non-Soviet reference for the "October" in the team's name that doesn't tie the team ideologically or politically with the United Nations. Since I'm making them the special operations arm of the BSEC/BLACKSEAFOR, I'm making the October in their name a reference to the Treaty of Nissa, which was signed on October 3, 1739, signalling the end of hostilities between the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire as they fought to dominate the shipping lanes in the Black Sea. Here's the roster for my version of the October Guard: Last edited by zuludelta; 09-01-2009 at 07:44 PM.. |

Damn Zulu.. that is amazing stuff. The level of detail is incredible.
Love how you're doing the October Guard and Action Force. Really really loving how you're doing the Fury Force and integrating it into the Joeverse with Burkhart and the Blind Master (that's awesome btw) and such.

Now I got to go back and pick through my Nth man comics. I haven't looked at one in like 20years. So no tie in with Bob Light and John Do?

So long as we get a composited image similar to the Fury Force sketch, I'm game! Both the FF and OG lineups are looking good, z.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing a group composite image and a huge group filecard entry for Fury Force instead of the typical individual ones I've done so far, just to set them apart. |
