It's just a matter of shuffling the roster so that it aligns with real-world military organizations.
Another way of grouping the Pravda Patrol/October Guard guys is to organize them according to regional military alliances. For instance, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia are major partners in BLACKSEAFOR (Black Sea Naval Co-operation Task Group), a joint military task force whose primary mission is to protect the Black Sea region from terrorist elements. Aligning the October Guard (or Pravda Patrol) with BLACKSEAFOR would make it so that there's a suitable background context for a grouping of Colonel Brekhov (Ukraine), Red Star (Ukraine), Lt. Gorky (Russia), Dragonsky (Russia), Stormavik (Russia), Sgt. Misha (Russia), Big Bear (Russia), and Horror-Show (Georgia). Daina/Vorona (Czech Republic) and Schrage (Germany) could then be grouped with the British SAS guys (Big Ben, Jingles, Sgt. Day) and Backstop to form a NATO-centric equivalent. yeah i know you planned on pulling the October name from the signing of the UN charter, but with GIJoe it means Soviet Union.
The thing I don't like about the UN is that as a military force it's sort of lame. Really only Peacekeepers. I see NATO as more of the UN's Muscle when they want to lay down the law. But with the UN's permanent security council members involving many of the nations you are trying to group together, there should be a unit to serve them. I just don't like them being October Guard. Action Force is better IMO. I mean it's part of the mythos. |

It makes sense. I was just looking if then UN had some sort of anti-terrorist team. but BLACK SEA FORCE is way better sounding, better suited in this context, and a real world unit that fits the bill. You could add Wong and Ruslan (Got to check that name) for ten. Don't forget Taurus as well. |

EDIT: Ah, I see you've responded to the previous post. I need to type faster (or wait longer before typing my responses ). Quote:
The UN has which was created back in the mid-1990s, a unit composed of anti-terrorism specialists from Germany's GSG 9 and Spezialeinsatzkommandos, Austria's EKO CObra, Norway's Beredskapstroppen, Sweden's Nationella insatsstyrkan, and the Czech Republic's Útvar rychlého nasazenÃ*. Their original mission was to search and arrest (and if peacable arrest is not possible, neutralize with extreme prejudice) indicted war criminals from the Kosovo conflict, although now they are used more like a SWAT team in the UN-administered areas of Kosovo. Yeah. I just don't know how it would sit with Action Force fans with me co-opting the name and then populating it mostly with ARAH characters. Last edited by zuludelta; 08-31-2009 at 10:11 PM.. |

Well, I've settled on a regional politico-economic alliance that can account for the existence of a modern-day October Guard: the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Organization.
The BSEC counts Russia, the Ukraine and Georgia among its members, so Brekhov (Ukraine), Red Star (Ukraine), Lt. Gorky (Russia), Dragonsky (Russia), Stormavik (Russia), Sgt. Misha (Russia), Big Bear (Russia), and Horror-Show (Georgia) are covered. Additionally, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Energy Charter Treaty organization (of which the People's Republic of China is an official observer) are recognized "observer states/organizations" of the BSEC, so Vorona's, Schrage's, and Wong's membership in the October Guard can be rationalised as well. I can see the October Guard acting as a squad-sized special operations unit specialising in sensitive anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations, protecting BSEC assets in the Black Sea, Central Asia, and Eurasian region whilst using BLACKSEAFOR logistics and administrative resources. I wouldn't worry about it. I was raised on both Joe and Action Force and to be honest most Action Force fans are already used to the ARAH characters as "Action Force" as opposed to guys like Sparrowhawk or Beaver. Growing up, it was always the familiar Joe names from different countries (Roadblock from the French Congo etc). I think as long as you stick a few characters who coexisted with the Joe trademarks like Hunter, Jammer, Blades and Moondancer you'll be right.
