Nice. Although I thought you did it all by hand.

I hadn't thought of using the Rens TR head on the trooper body, I might have to try that. However, I've been using that TR as another character, so I'm not sure if I'll go that route. Personally, I think the Retaliation wave 2 Flint is generic enough to use as Torpedo, minus the beret of course. He also works, IMHO, as a more modern version of Falcon, which I believe others have said as well. I have 2 of the Flints, but only 1 trooper so far.

I'm gonna be armybuilding (well, not really, more like fireteam-building) the shit out of the Ultimate Duke figure now that Hasbro has released a hi-res image of the alternative masked head that comes with the figure (as for the horrendous, default Channing Tatum likeness head, let's not speak of it again ). Since Unimax's 1:18 scale Ghost Recon: Future Soldier figures seem to have fallen off the map, I guess these have to do for now. And I love that it comes with a Joe-scale HK416.
The figure also looks like a nice complement/contrast to the Cobra Shock Trooper, my favorite post-ARAH army builder figure. It always bugged me that the Joes never really had an army builder-friendly design that could stand up to it in terms of detail (the Steel Brigade figure was okay, but I didn't like the fact that it shared so many parts with the Shock Trooper, and I've never been a fan of the Steel Brigade color scheme... too garish for my taste). You don't see Red Spot there? Although I tell you add a thin Mustache on Duke and he's a whole nother figure.

I could have gone without the drone, though. Wish they'd jettisoned it in favor of a decent M249 (with an ammo box, like the one that comes with the Ultimate Roadblock figure) or an M27 IAR and maybe a designated marksman rifle of some sort... that way you could outfit the figures as an actual fireteam straight out of the package. I love the drone. It's a great little accessory.
Ultimate Duke is the Ultimate army builder.

One last note on that Ultimate Duke. I've been wracking my brain trying to think who the supposed Channing Tatum likeness on the figure reminds me of, because it looks maddeningly familiar. Then it hit me: the face looks just like LA Clippers power forward Blake Griffin:
Heck, Ultimate Duke looks more like Blake Griffin than the Blake Griffin figure from McFarlane Toys! |

Here's a version of the Retaliation Joe Trooper with the cape/cloak and assault rifle done up in woodland digital camo as well:
My earlier attempt at Woodland was leaning closer to the CADPAT color scheme, this one's been tweaked to look like it's splitting the difference between MARPAT and NWU Type III. Last edited by zuludelta; 06-26-2013 at 02:06 AM.. |
