Yeah, the color scheme was pretty clear, but the "bulk" is what caught my eye. It's pretty cool for Deep Six to get a complimentary sailor, too. He kinda stuck out before but now his look works better with another guy having a similar look, IMO.

Speaking of Mariner and Mayday for that matter, JoeDeclassified had these little tidbits for the two. Not official but as close as possible. Mark Powers and Mike O'Sullivan were responsible for these two, to some degree.

Neat find Loose. Can't say I'm that enamoured with their "semi-official" origins. Seems like Mariner is just a re-hash of Torpedo (a vegetarian and a SEAL). And like a lot of the entries in DDP's GI Joe Data Desk Handbook, it still has that feel of "fan-fiction" to me in terms of tone and style.

Oh you're right. I was struck by the same reaction, like "WTF they just copy Torps Filecard? Was he born in Hawaii too?"
Still Considering that neither has a filecard, it's as official as there is. Did DDP invent Kamakura? Who was resposible for that one? Sean Collins existed in Marvel so not sure who said lets bring back the kid from the very last issue.

Yeah, Sean Collins was a Hama creation (he appeared, initially unnamed, in GI Joe #30 waaaay back in 1984 as one of Fred I's kids), but I'm pretty sure Sean-Collins-growing-up-to-become-a-ninja was a DDP thing.

I know this probably counts as fan fiction more than fan art, but since it's part of the larger "illustrated document," here's the raw text of the first chapter of the revised document:
Lemme know what you guys think (and don't mind the typos, I'll be cleaning it all up for the final piece). Last edited by zuludelta; 04-09-2011 at 01:02 AM.. |

Looks official as always. I liked that you clearly outlined the limitations that the Joe team has based on its personnel as well as the distinction you made between the purpose and use of the GIJOE team versus peacekeeping and special operations forces.
Now I'm really curious to see how COBRA factors into all of this (is COBRA even unified in your world for that matter?). I personally prefer several different organizations (COBRA, MARS, Dreadnoks, etc.) and independent contractors (Firefly, Bludd, Kwinn, etc.). BTW, I hope you work in some believable future tech into those bios when you get there. Last edited by Master Thespian; 04-09-2011 at 01:07 AM.. |

For a real world example of this happening (where soldiers from a particular country end up fighting private military contractors from the same country), Belgian para-commandos reportedly went up against a number of Belgian mercenaries (and Belgian mercenary-trained African fighters) working for the RGF during the Rwandan Civil War. |

I like the new document, Zulu. It feels more "real" based on what we've seen of the Joes in the old Marvel comics. Are you planning on adding fighter aircraft and attack helicopters into the mix?
