I think I'll pass on the raincoat suggestion. Modern military raincoats are designed as ponchos, so it would cover up the "scales" that I think are integral to the look I designed for the character. And a cape (or even a long coat), obviously, is out of the question in terms of functionality, since I expressly designed the look around a combat suit.

Well, after giving it some more thought and looking up all sorts of military-style raincoats, I decided to give him one:
It's not current (it's a type of coat the Wehrmacht wore in their invasion of Russia during World War II), but I figure Sir Pentaur is the type of guy who'd be crazy enough to wear something that old. Also, the collar/hood ties make for a good stand-in for Serpentor's shoulder snakes. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Whether you keep the image or not, That my friend is a stroke of genius! The amount of effort you put into Sir Pentaur to make him a modern update using current equipment is remarkable.
Blown away! Even if you decide to go in a different direction later on, for whatever reason, this would still make an excellent Overlord.

I'm actually working on Cesspool right now. I think he'd make a great executive-type for how I'm designing COBRA. |

No he never showed up in the Marvel run. Although he made his way into DDP and he had a decent run culminating in their Civil War issues. He's the one who killed Chuckles.
Can't wait for Cesspool. I don't remember what the previous image you did looked like.

Thinking of adding vehicle entries to the GIJOE document. Obviously, there won't be any "VAMPs" or "Skystrikers" or whatever, but real world stand-ins for the common Joe vehicle types: a wheeled automotive tactical transport, a combat rubber recon craft equipped with an outboard motor, maybe some sort of utility transport aircraft organic to the GIJOE unit for limited tactical airlift (that last one will require some organizational re-jiggering to accommodate, although I think I've hit upon a way to include organic aircraft without the Joe team being overwhelmingly made up of aircraft maintenance personnel).
I'm thinking the Joe team would operate COTS vehicles instead of standard DoD-vetted vehicles, as that approach fits within the philosophy of GIJOE not being bogged down by contractor politics and acquisitions bureaucracy. So say, instead of a C-130, the Joe team would instead have an Antonov An-26 (less conspicuous in hostile territories). Instead of fuel-guzzling and conspicuous Humvees, maybe they drive militarized Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen 290 utility vehicles (similar to the IFAVs used by the USMC Force Recon Companies or the Command & Reconnaissance G-Wagons used by the Canadian, German, Australian and Danish forces in Afghanistan and elsewhere) or modified Toyota Tacoma/Hilux pick-up trucks (similar to the ones allegedly used by various special operations units in Afghanistan and Iraq). What do you guys think? Last edited by zuludelta; 10-16-2010 at 06:55 AM.. |
