Saw the IDW version of Big Boa recently (it's here if you haven't seen it). I've really really tried to keep an open mind with some of IDW's departures from the old ARAH designs. I don't mind all that much the superficial changes, things like the female Dial-Tone (once it was explained that she was the original Dial-Tone's sister and had "inherited" the code-name), black Ripcord (the IDW guys were just following Hasbro's directives on that one), etc., but the IDW re-design just doesn't work as Big Boa for me. To me, there is no easily discernible design connection between "S&M boxer with a mean-ass helmet" (the original ARAH Big Boa design) and "guy with robotic jaw in a t-shirt" (IDW's Big Boa).
Anyway, here's my take on COBRA's premier trainer and all-around hard-ass: Big Boa Design notes:

Looking good, z. The only thing that bugs me is Xamot's face looks odd to me. It always has, but it stands out more now (I guess after looking at it for so long). There has to be another shot of Welling out there somewhere. ;) The yellow ties are a nice touch to break up the black/blue/red scheme of Cobra.

Thanks MT. I've gone and updated Xamot, and Tomax as well. I don't remember if I've already brought this up, but did anybody else find it passing strange that in the toy and filecard, Xamot's scar is on the left cheek, but in the Marvel comics and the Sunbow cartoon, it was on his right cheek?

Thanks!
As I'd mentioned in a previous post, here are some of the cartoon-exclusive characters that I'm "importing" into COBRA's roster, to fill out the lead positions and such. First row: Mary Demming, George Latimer Second row: Datu Ali, Clayton Moore Design notes:

Looking good, z. The additions of these characters (sans Ali) gives COBRA a more grounded, legitimate business type of feel. Ali brings more operational believability in the way that Bludd, Firefly, and (hopefully) Kwinn do. That said, Moore's face seems a bit off. I can't tell if this is a composited face, but the features seems to be from different angles or something. Also, Latimer's face seems strangely colored. There's a somewhat undead quality to it. I didn't get in to answer when you asked which other characters you should bring in for COBRA, but I certainly hope to have more of those characters you listed make an appearance. Although you (wisely) scaled back the Joe side of your project, the COBRA ranks can use as much help as possible, IMO.
Looking forward to the next round! |

That way, the CGs (and by extension, COBRA) can be all things to all people. Doesn't matter if there's a Democrat or a Republican sitting in the White House or who's heading the Senate, COBRA will have embedded CGs lobbying and bribing for them to get no-bid multi-million dollar government contracts and unfair tax exemptions.
