Functionally though, it's based on the "Physical Signatures Team" of the Battlefield Deception Element that the US Army used to employ in Division-level intelligence units (I don't know if the US Army has retained the organisational concept with all the recent re-organisations they've been doing since 2001). A Physical Signatures Team is composed of at least one combat engineer, one combat arms sergeant (usually an infantryman, but occasionally a cavalry scout), and one imagery analyst. They're basically responsible for planning, organising, and directing physical deception operations. Physical deception, in this case, largely involves physical concealment of unit assets, the fabrication and emplacement of decoys, and the facilitation of feint movements. The team's role is more of a planning thing though, since the feints and decoy emplacement and whatnot will more often than not be directly conducted by an intelligence unit's recon/surveillance personnel, although members of the Phys Sig team will occasionally accompany those personnel in the field to provide expert guidance. Their digital and electronic counterpart in the Battlefield Deception Element is the "Electronic Signatures Team" (which I've adapted and renamed in the GIJOE organisational outline as the more tech-y sounding "Electromagnetic Emanations Security Team"). The Electronic Signatures Team distorts and disguises specific electromagnetic emanations (i.e., the EM signatures emitted by particular equipment) so that they don't "look" like military-specific equipment to adversary ELINT interceptors/analysts. For example, a US Army ground station module would have a particular electromagnetic signature profile. Even if a ground station module is physically concealed or disguised to look like, say, a container van, its EM profile could still give it away. The Electronic Signatures Team's job is to ensure that the EM profile is sufficiently disguised/distorted so it remains hidden from electronic intercept equipment. I don't think I've commented here before, but this is one of the most brilliant threads here. Great job on making every aspect of Joe and Cobra have a realistic purpose. Even something as simple as Zartan's face make-up. There's WAY too much info here to absorb. Do you have any Cliff's Notes anywhere? lol

Funny you should bring up Cliff Notes and such... I was just going through my references and it occurred to me that I'd never really quantified how much reference material I've compiled over the past three(?) years working on this monster. I've got about 1.37 GB(!) of reference material (granted about a fourth of that is multi-layer .PSDs I use to mock-up images). No wonder it's taking me so long to finish up. Everything from scanned military manuals, photographs, academic dissertations, articles... and that's not even counting the actual physical books I have and the web pages I've bookmarked (although I take info from unofficial internet-only sources with a grain of salt... a lot of bullshit out there from frauds... if there's one thing I've learned through all this, is that there exists a growing population of military/special operations "experts" of questionable experience and reliability who've managed to parlay their dubious resumés into careers as authors and self-proclaimed "consultants").

Nice I always liked how these two match color schemes almost exactly. Like the Red on Lowlight too.

The new images look good. I liked the desaturated reds slightly better, but these work very well too. If nothing else, they still look realistic and they not only help distinguish these characters, it helps those that only have the browns and greens stand out a more themselves. My only concern is that now characters like Flash and Grand Slam look unfamiliar missing their stronger colors.
