Another way to look at it, if he was a trainer more then leader, is that the Range Viper helmets have the skulls on 'em, Skull Buster's job is to bust those skulls into shape.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm surprised that Raptor engendered as many responses as he has. Always thought he was a character nobody really cared about (I never used him as Raptor as a kid... I always used him as Condorman ).
Here's another one of Cobra's eccentric (to say the least) cast of 1987: Crystal Ball Design notes:
To read his full filecard, click on the Filecard Project link in my signature. Thanks for looking! Love the idea of Crystal Ball, could also work him in as Cobra's Public Face PR guy, as that's also a kind of hypnosis of the same sort as advertising, as you try to convince people of the image you're making.

I believe the article (I wish I'd saved it, but I was at work) was talking about how the Army had stopped training its troops in hand to hand for a while, but it is now doing so again. It also talked about competitions between soldiers and how popular these events are.

Wow Zulu, Crystal Ball is Awesome. His image and Raptor(David Bowie) is goijng to stick in my mind forever. I love the marketing aspect as it gives him a purpose in a corporate setting. As cheesy as they both were as toys I still used them. can't wait to see Big Boa. (A character I actually like)

No, just some random face I saw on the internet and modified for my purposes (added the moustache, changed the hair). He does kind of look like Fallon now that you mention it. Last edited by zuludelta; 08-16-2009 at 01:00 PM.. |

Thanks. The thing about the "way out there" characters is I'm having a lot of fun grounding them in reality. It's an interesting challenge ensuring that the characters remain recognizable in a very different context.

It's Jimmy Fallon. It has to be. Too close to be anyone but.

I'm kinda sure it's not Jimmy Fallon. Can't remember the exact site I got the face from (might have been Getty Images), but it was from a legit stock photography site, and I'm certain they don't use famous actors for their pictures.

I like the Crystal Ball... a much better idea then what hasbro gave us in 1987... and great idea to make him Cobra's ad guru... subliminal messages from cobra provided to you by Crystal ball.
