Good work, z. That Bosh head is really well disguised and a great choice, especially considering his silliness. Will you still be a fan when he leaves Toronto this summer?

I'll still follow his career if he decides to leave the Barneys. He's a genuinely nice guy, from what I've read and heard, and he's always taken the time to show his appreciation to the fans, the franchise, and the community. With the Raps missing the playoffs, though, I think the chances of him staying in Toronto diminishes greatly. The biggest factor, I think, that'll determine whether he stays or goes is what the outlook is for the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement talks. If he signs a new contract with Toronto in the summer, he can get significantly more money and more years than what other teams can offer (since the Raptors hold his "Bird Rights"), all under the conditions of the current CBA. If he signs with another team, he'll get less money and more significantly, a shorter contract, which means he'll be subject to the terms of the 2011 CBA at least a year earlier. Right now, everybody's saying the the 2011 CBA will likely see max contracts reduced from 6 years to 4 years, with yearly salaries reduced by anywhere from 5% to 20%. If he does leave, I think he might go to Miami or even Chicago. I won't mourn too much if he leaves though. True, he's probably one of the top 5 PFs in the game right now, but as good as he is, I don't think he's an irreplaceable player. It'll allow Bargnani to move to the 4-spot, which is his natural position and where his weakness in rebounding can be partially mitigated and where his above-average shot-blocking instincts can be an asset. It'll also give Bargs more freedom to operate on the perimeter, where he's an absolute match-up nightmare (think of him as a much more athletic but also more defensively inept version of a prime Rasheed Wallace. Or a rich man's Mehmet Okur.). I don't think Bargs is anywhere close to being a serviceable Bosh replacement currently and he might never be one, but in two or three years, I think a big man tandem of Bargnani at PF and Amir Johnson at C could be better than a Bosh-Bargnani PF/C combo, primarily because Amir Johnson excels at the areas where Bargnani is weak and vice-versa, whereas there's a fair bit of talent duplication and reinforcement of weaknesses with Bosh and Bargnani playing together in the post. |

Marquee American players seem to flee Toronto when their first contract is up. Don't you get sick of that?! For years as a Hawks fan I had to deal with this, so I know the feeling (I think JJ is gone this summer too and I don't see us getting anyone as good as him to fill the void :( ) Quote:

LeBron is rewriting the rules on how some of these young guys make their contracts nowadays. The shorter contracts really put more pressure on the organizations to surround their guys with worthwhile pieces lest they bolt in free agency. But you're right, the new CBA combined with a shift in player focus is making this summer really unpredictable. Last edited by Master Thespian; 04-15-2010 at 10:48 AM.. |

Bosh leaving, assuming he does leave, is more indicative of the front office failures than anything else, IMO. Had the Raptors' front office been better at drafting and more judicious with their free agent signings, I don't think we'd be having this discussion right now... I think Bosh would've signed a max extension that would've kept him on the team through the 2010-2011 season instead of the one that's making him a free agent this summer. Think about all those bungled opportunities the front office made: Drafting Rafael Araujo (who's not even in the NBA anymore... heck he's not even in the D-League) with the 8th overall pick in 2004, ahead of Andre Igoudala, Andris Biedrins, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, Jameer Nelson, and Kevin Martin. Wasting a high lottery pick on Charlie Villanueva and a middle lottery pick on Joey Graham in 2005 when they could have gotten Danny freakin' Granger (or even just Ersan Ilyasova) and Monta Ellis. I'll give them a pass on drafting Bargnani over Roy in 2006 for now, since I think Bargnani is shaping up to be a decent player and potential All-Star if he continues to improve at the rate he's been going. Over-paying for Jose Calderon (I like Jose and all, but there's no way he's worth $8 million a season). Trading for a one-legged Jermaine O'Neal only to do a "panic trade" later in the season sending him to Miami for a pair of used jock straps and couch change. Wasting their cap space on Hedo Turkoglu (granted, I thought it was a good idea at the time, too). And it's not just hindsight talking either. Araujo was a known quantity during the 2004 draft night. Everybody outside of the Raptors war room had the guy pegged as a stiff who had absolutely no place in the NBA except as a warm body in practice. I was practically jumping out of my seat when Granger was still available when the Raptors were picking at #16 in 2005, only to be reduced to a sobbing wreck when they instead used it on Joey Graham (they didn't even get the right Graham... his undrafted twin brother, Stephen Graham, might have a longer and more productive NBA career when all is said and done). ha ha. Thanks! |

Most NBA GMs are complete and utter idiots at their jobs.
It's horrible how bad they are.

Took a break from writing the filecards to re-work some images I wasn't completely happy with the first go-round:

Holy crap I am in love with Mayday.
The rest are great, but I really love Mayday. Who's face is that? Laura San Giacomo? Love it.
