I think it's too much to expect every trooper to have a unique name. Officers and special operators.

Also, Hama kept writing in two guys in random Cobra roles. One guy was always called Damon and the other one was Pythias (based on the Greek legend). I know they appeared as Cobra Consulate guards in GI Joe Special Missions #7 but I seem to recall seeing them as Vipers or Cobra troopers or something somewhere else. It was almost like some kind of running gag or inside joke. Last edited by zuludelta; 03-01-2010 at 01:35 PM.. |

That's right. Those names did pop up a couple of times. Hama trying to make his "redshirts"? You see the name, you know they're going to die.

Although I doubtr that was the same Copperhead, but sometimes i like to pretend some of the faceless Cobras are just characters that get named later. So when the Joes kill all the Cobras in a battalion, one or two has to make it out. So imagine Copperhead got out? Or in Issue #1 there is a bald cobra trooper who is looking over Dr Burkhart. In my mind that is Interrogator. Even though the Joes blew up the island he managed to escape.
I figure if the Commander even speaks to a blue-shirt or viper, he has shown some sort of initiative and unless he gets killed, he's probably on his way to being named. Like Otto Skorzeny. He's somewhat unnamed at the beginning of WWII, but by the end, Hitler is personally selecting him for missions. Otto Skorzeny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Yeah, that's kind of how I see it.
The faceless troopers hope to earn a name someday. Like Mercer says in one of his flashbacks in my stuff, he was a sargeant in charge of his squad, but they were all under a guy named Komodo. Earning a name is like a badge of honor. It says you're dedicated and that you've been there awhile, that you're a survivor, etc.. Being an operator, like Copperhead, Scrap-Iron, Wild Weasel, Black-Out, etc..; which is having your own uniform and not one of the Vipers/Blueshirts means you're a total bad-ass in the Cobra Organization.

Yeah a Survivor. Which means you pushed your fair share of vipers out of the liferaft\escape pod to live and fight another day.

Couldn't sleep, so I went ahead and started work on the appendices for the reference bible.
Here are early samples of the maps (click on the thumbnails to view the full-sized images): Design notes:

I like the layout you've got going there. Are you going to be using that program Troy was using a while back to make diagrams of the base?
While I'm cool with the change to Lifeline and I dig the overall look, I think the image could be tightened up a bit. The stethoscope, the yellow bands and the bag all look significantly lower quality than the rest of the image. That smoothing trick you did on the yellow band on his arm would go a long way towards cleaning that problem up, IMO. Also, I think that his uniform could use a good deal more white in it now that you are bringing it more in line with the original. |

While I certainly liked your take on Lifeline as a PJ, I'm enjoying this new take on him as well. Even though it sounds like you're eschewing the whole pacifist thing (I never bought into it either), I don't imagine he'll be seeing much combat. Ft. Wadsworth looks great, maybe if I go to NY this summer I'll go check out the real thing.
