Thanks so much for the well wishes, fellas.
I generally dig anything you do the roster, z, but I'd particularly fond of the way that you have brought some cohesiveness to the teams based on prior assignment (really loving the introduction of sub-unit names where appropriate). I hope you were able to preserve some of the famous groupings as well. Onto the images:

Nice new batch of pics. Though Blackout's a little wierd. I always picture Blackout as more urban marksman than sniper. He just doesn't seem to have the discipline to slow crawl to a position and wait days for the perfect shot. He seems more a "taget of opportunity" guy. Really like Backblast and Bench Press.

[list]Backblast doesn't work for me on two levels. The "fish eye perspective" is very hard to ape accurately. The issue here is that the forearm should taper off into the background and the reduction process should ideally continue on into his body and down into the legs. It currently looks like a normal image with just part of it wide angled and kind of falls flat for me.

The second level where the image misses the mark is that suddenly using an image like this in a reference bible doesn't "feel" right. It seems out of place when compared with every other image in the project. Considering the fact that I think that your project is going to be more popular than you realized when you're done, most people are never going to see your explanations and the image will look even stranger to them.

[QUOTE=Loose Cannon;1436536]Still with all the figures they haven't made, would you guys be happier, with say a kitbashed Lifeline in totally new (Awesome camo), or does it have to be true to ARAH?
I think that to a certain extent they have to incorporate some element of the original in an updated "realistic" one. For example, I'm working on a Lifeline custom based partially on how the PJs in "Black Hawk Down" and partially on how Baron Samedi described him in his Joeverse thread. Maily I'm waiting on a head from Trigate to finish him. It's kind of hard, though, because I still like his red and white color scheme, even though I know it doesn't work too well in the real world. |

Updated the Backblast image. Check the previous page to see it (and clear your browser's image cache if you're still seeing the old pic).

One way around that is to just assume that every Cobra trooper has a unique code name. The problem with that approach is that if I do that, I have to make individual filecards for every one of those troopers (to be consistent with how I've made the Joe reference bible). And that would be too much, even for me.
Having a "name" in Cobra is an indication of standing in the organization. It means you've achieved a certain rank in the armed forces or a certain position in the other aspects of the organization.

The way I'm getting around it in my stuff is that the Named Cobras are certain ranks and positions.
Having a "name" in Cobra is an indication of standing in the organization. It means you've achieved a certain rank in the armed forces or a certain position in the other aspects of the organization. Back in the old Marvel comics, I always assumed that Scarface was a regular Cobra officer and we only knew his codename because he figured prominently in a particular story. Even the Night Creepers had individual code names (based on the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, IIRC). Then there are the different Crimson Guard series (the numbered Freds and Joneses). But then, you've got the SAW-Viper from the Trucial Abysmia storyline. He's obviously part of a larger corps of SAW-Vipers, but all throughout, he's referred to by his superiors simply as SAW-Viper, no specific code name or anything. Not even a numbered designation like "SAW-Viper Two" or something like that. |

I remember in issue 8 or 9? I think the first Oktober Guard appearance there are two Cobras who are told to dispatch of the Joes that were captured. For the life of me I don't remember how they get out of that, but their names were Copperhead and Cottonmouth? They don'y make it. But I think you hear Captain or Sgt when referring to faceless Cobra leaders.
Of course another time a cobra is told to dispatch a few captured Joes he doesn't have a codename either, (SAW-Viper) well until later when he becomes Overkill. |
