Wow, didn't know you were a Hisstank member (well looks like since last week is maybe why). Good to see you on board!
I'm a bit of an OG13 enthusiast, so I like that your "opening song" was this Comic cover homage. I tried this shot last year with 25th figures, and it was not easy to get the feel of the original. Mostly because everything in the original artwork is so out of proportion perspectively. Anyway, at the time of researching my shot, I was surprise you didn't already have a version of this--which was good for me. If you had, I probably wouldn't have tried mine at all. And as it all turns out, I don't mind your version literally blowing mine away after the fact! Like many others here, I've been a big fan of your work. I'm not on Instagram (or Facebook--too much outside mainstream noise), but I see your pics all over Pinterest when looking for photo ideas (or to avoid to close a copy). You lighting, backgrounds, frame depth and angle shots, and especially you on-camera "special effects" are just amazing and inspiring to me. Loved you turn on Michael Mercy's Toy Guys Talking, and the behind the scenes stuff you revealed. Please keep posting your stuff here, so I can keep up with your latest. And I hope you don't mind some behind the scene questions along the way. |

And I hope you don't mind some behind the scene questions along the way. You hit the nail on the head when it comes to the challenge of recreating these comic covers: scale and proportions. I’ve wanted to do this issue for a long time but didn’t have the swivel arm versions or enough led fxs to pull it off until recently. I’ve got some more covers in the works and I’ve completed all the Cobra vehicle box art recreations from 83-85 (minus the Viper glider) that I’m collecting into a digital coffee table style book. My plan is to share comic covers and collected works here as there are a lot of Joe fans not on Instagram. Thanks again for the kind words bro! I’m heading to your Flickr link now to check out some of those GI Joe photo collections - Yo Joe!!! |
