True, but it does assist a lot in making sure everything will actually fit once in place. More likely you'd need two parts if you want a mobile track, the track and an inner hinge to assist in articulation around the loop. Otherwise, yea - just a single piece for the whole unit. Finished connecting all the rear suspension and rear bumper. Made armored window kit, clip on roof lights and designed a missile launcher for the turret. Haven't finished articulating the turret points yet but that's because I may scrap the current design. Playing with something different right now and didn't want to put the work into articulating this one if I decide to go a different direction.
The missile pod can of course be mounted on either or both sides just like the gun. |

You seem to have a handle on this pretty well! Again, if you hadn't said you were "learning" Blender, I'd think you were pretty experienced with it. I like all the different variations you've produced so far using the same core model. How "compatible" are the parts between the different variants?

I have a few ideas in my sketchbook for other modular vehicles as well. |

Also started work on a flat bed, but it has a LONG way to go. Have to redo suspension mounting points and all sorts of things. Also the dually axle that this and the dually uses is not designed yet the extra wheels are just sitting beside the others right now with no actual connection.
Ultimately when I get the flat bed done I think I'm going to move on to my next modular vehicle idea. I wanted to see how many different models of the VSV I could come up with while sharing the basic platform and many of the parts. After the flat bed I think it will just be some accessory items which can wait until later. Other accessories I'm kicking around... Heavy duty front bumper with grill guard and winch Lift kit with over sized tires. Different hoods, tires and wheels. Roof racks Antenna mounts gas cans with mount baskets Spare tire mounts Roll bar for truck models I think it would be cool for people to be able to just go down a checklist and say I want this part and that part and assemble the kit any way they want. I have ideas for a few other platforms that could be similarly modular. So far everything I've sketched out is ground based vehicles. I think air and watercraft will take a little more planning since other than outfitting them with different weapons things that drastically change their size usually also change the general shape of their hull or fuselage. |
