Yes, I am a kid at heart, and I intend to stay that way. My fiancee loves it (she costumes too) and our daughters think its awesome that Mom and Dad can dress up as the toys they play with. My friends and I have brought great happiness to many people who have seen us, and asked for pictures with us. Would you deny them that, or my children that, just because you have fears over what kind of clothes you wear? ... Maybe someday you can have that kind of impact on others, too. Then you will see why doing things like this make us so happy. -Viper 486 out. 1. It's fun as all get out making and putting together the costumes (though frustrating at times when you can't get things right). And when you do it in groups, the get togethers can be fun as anything. And walking around places and having people stop you left and right asking for your picture. 2. Kids. Kids love seeing their favorite charcters in person. If there has been a time I've went out in public in costume and haven't seen a kid go crazy for seeing a Mando or other costumes, I can't remember when it was. And I know in a couple of weeks, I'm going in costume to help out a fundraiser for a kid who's got cancer. So there's my reasons, and I'm sorry some don't like us in costumes. But I'm gonna keep doing it anyway. =o) |

As a side note, looking at these life-size walking, living action figures, it kinds of puts things in perspective why they can't make 'toon or comic accurate costumes in the movie now, doesn't it? I mean, maybe the Joe movie took it to the extreme with the accelerator suits and Neo Viper helmets, but bright red and blue don't exactly look very menacing do they?

I dunno, this is one of the few comic/cartoon properties where it would have been easy to make accurately costumed versions for the big screen. Usually, the biggest obstacles result from translating 2D design flourishes (like AstroBoy's hair spikes, or Mickey Mouse's ears always being viewable from any angle) or overly saturated comic colours (such as Superman's blue tights), but all of the G.I.Joe source material first stems from the little 4" 3 dimensional figures we so covet And for the most part (until a couple of years into the lineup) the colours were kept to fairly realistic hues. I just quickly tinkered with one of the photos and I have no problem seeing how this would actually work well on film
Your the guy who did that unreal baroness, too! What an honor to have you take notice of our work. Any way my costuming group, The 43rd Cobra Infantry (Mechanized) could use that retooled pic of us you did for recruitment purposes? |
