Wow, these are so figure-accurate! Very cool.
As a side note, looking at these life-size walking, living action figures, it kinds of puts things in perspective why they can't make 'toon or comic accurate costumes in the movie now, doesn't it? I mean, maybe the Joe movie took it to the extreme with the accelerator suits and Neo Viper helmets, but bright red and blue don't exactly look very menacing do they?

So far as I know, the 21st Infantry (of which I am a proud member), is the original COBRA based costuming group - if there was one before us, I haven't heard of it. COBRA Cares! ;) Viper_486 is a good friend of ours, and is the 'boss' of his own group, the 43rd. There is also at least one Joe based group, operating out of G.I. in my view, no matter how good the cobra uniforms look on a 4 inch figure, they just look silly when worn by actual people. maybe if the blue was darker on the officer uniform, but having been in the army, you would have made it real easy to shoot you from 300 meters with my trusty m-16

I'm sorry big heavy men running around in costumes pretending like they are Cobra's that is frightening. I would not be caught dead dressed like that. Maybe when I was 5 sure but not any age over 10. I'm sure the FBI is now thinking you are some kind of cult terrorist.

We just ran out and shot this on a whim, and 2 in uniform was all we could manage on such short notice. Else you'd had more troops. Quote:
Everybody knows who we are, and nobody has a problem. Know all the local cops, and they actually think what we do is pretty awesome, so no trouble or worries for us. We usually troop to photo shoots in full uniform. and our neighbors are used to it. Quote:
She's have been the pics with us, if we'd had someone else to take the pics. Quote:
All of the custom equipment you see in the pics was made by us. The Viper helm is no harder to see out of than a pair of sunglasses. Quote:

I still think classic navy blue uniforms look better than the crap in the movie, but that is *my* opinion. Plus, when there are like 20 of us (and there are) trooping together at a con, we don't exactly look cuddly. Quote:

I agree, but then again, thats why Cobra has the BATS... As for the blue being light on my officer uniform, I did mine to match aa group of friends who are gonna be involved in a large shoot at SDCC this year, plus I am finishing the webgear for the Bazooka Trooper, and I wanted to go figure accurate. And I am truly sorry you feel that way. I am good friends with my local Chief of Police, and most of our officers. They know I and my friends are professional costumers, and do this kinda thing for fun all the time. Trust me, they have no problems with it. I am also active in our local Neighborhood Watch, and am on the board of our cities small business association. I also sit on the cities Rennaissance Faire board, nad have been active in historical reenactment (more costuming) and teaching historical european combat for the last 8 years. Yes, I am a kid at heart, and I intend to stay that way. My fiancee loves it (she costumes too) and our daughters think its awesome that Mom and Dad can dress up as the toys they play with. My friends and I have brought great happiness to many people who have seen us, and asked for pictures with us. Would you deny them that, or my children that, just because you have fears over what kind of clothes you wear? I don't, and my life, my children's lives, and the lives of those around me are far richer for it. Maybe someday you can have that kind of impact on others, too. Then you will see why doing things like this make us so happy. -Viper 486 out. |
