Update- Prize Money doubled
I'm currently developing a product inspired by our favorite military-fantasy line, and I'm preparing to start putting together some prototype elements. Among these elements will be a few 1:18 scale figures. By necessity, the figures will be a bit simpler than Joes, but I'm still shooting to produce a nice set of figures. At this phase I need a design sheet to send off to my prototype-producer so that I can get a quote and start running numbers on how to move forward. This is where the contest comes in: Entry Rules- Each artist may submit one design for a "masked, unnamed, blue-shirted soldier." Entries may be in B&W or in color. At MINIMUM the design must be presented with both a "front" and "back" design, though profile and head-design details etc. may also be included. Though your design may be inspired by any source material you choose, the design MUST be original, and distinctively different from any design which is already copyrighted by any major multi-national corporations (e.g. Extensive Enterprises, Arbco, Hasbro, etc.....) Judging- Each design will be judged based on a number of qualities, including, but not limited to: Feasibility of Action-Figure Production. General Aesthetic Value. Originality of design (see above). From among the entries, I will choose up to 3 qualifying entries, and allow the community to pick the final winner by forum-poll. Hopefully this will help to ensure that the design with the most "fan-appeal" is chosen. Prizes- The artist whose design that is ultimately chosen will receive *$100* in prize money (via either paypal or money order at the winner's choice). In addition, assuming that the prototyping goes forward, the winner will also receive one free prototype figure (either painted or "raw" depending on the winner's selection.) Finally, the winning artist will also be given first crack at future design work for this project. NOTE- By submitting to this contest you are effectively submitting an "on-spec" design commission. The winning artist will be paid the prize-money as compensation for their work. The winning artist grants rights for figure-development-use to Eric Donelson based on his or her winning image(s). At artist's request, design credit will be given under whatever name the artist chooses on all paperwork which accompanies figures based on their design. Entries may be submitted to this thread, or alternately emailed to me at edonelson @ writer wolf . com (no spaces) All entries must be received by 04/12/09 Good luck! Short-non-legally-binding-version:
Design me a blue-shirt baddie that DOESN'T look SIGNIFICANTLY like, say, for a random example, a Hasbro Cobra soldier, and win yourself 50 bucks cash, and possibly see your design made into a 1:18 scale action figure. EDIT- OH, and also position yourself to receive a whole string of paying commissions future figure designs. Which in the long run might be the bigger prize. Re-read the long post to make sure you really understand the details before submitting anything though. I'll be happy to answer any questions through PM's Thanks TT, been loving your stuff over on the tfw2005 radicons boards for a while The project I'm doing this for IS a big one, of which the figures are only a small (but important!) element. This community is one of the primary target audiences though, so I'm hoping to tailor the details accordingly as much as I can! WW Last edited by writerwolf; 03-29-2009 at 07:39 PM.. |

So basically you're going to pay someone fifty bucks to design your product for you?

I want to give this a shot, but it will be hard to stay away from the Cobra Trooper design.

PERSONALLY, I prefer the more sci-fi'y side of our favorite Military-Fantasy, but again, I ant to end up with a design that will appeal to the whole community. My suggestion would be to design the coolest trooper you can come up with (Well, coolest AND generic-cannon-fddery at the same time) Quote:
So, take a look at whatever (blue-shirted-terror-minded-nameless) source-material or personal inspiration you like, and put your own personal stamp on it! WW |

What mediums are you accepting? IE, Pencil, Pen & Ink, Digital, photoshop files, Flash Files? etc..
Also is the future work only for the drawings or are you going to need someone to sculpt the prototypes as well?
