No worries dude, i didn't take it personally!
I understand that it sounds absurd...and it is. You should see the crap i had to take for a small design like this one. I wasn't going after your comment, just explaining how it works sometimes. And yes, i agree that it was a short amount of time. I draw really fast, and wasn't really a problem (well, got delayed by other things), but i guess that other people need more time. But hey, those where the rules. Nathan pulled out a design in just one day, complete with colour and side view, for example. In any case, don't worry, and keep those awesome profiles coming! And thanks for the compliment Last edited by meleeinabox; 04-13-2009 at 11:08 PM.. |

An example: A few years back, Wizards of the Coast made a contest; people could create an idea for a RPG, and submit it. The winner will have a prize, and also, the idea could be published. The winner was the Eberron setting (a fantasy RPG). Though WotC read all the entries, they didn't have rights on them , just the one they choose. I think this works the same. WW will make a prototype of the one who wins. Have in mind that this is a independent project, not a Hasbro contest. |

Wry1, art is very much appreciated by many people even now... I have gone to galleries where small pen and ink drawings have gone for a $2500 and the artist was neither dead nor really known. Sure it is classified as fine art rather then illustration however it is still art. I all depends on what you do and who your target audiance is because people still pay big money for good art... just think about how much a good print of painting can cost.
I have no stake in how a pro-artist makes his money I am not one and have never tried to be one I draw for fun for myself. However I find it horrible that people who choose to become pro artist don't get paid for the work they do- I do not know what your problem is with that? And my beef was never about the prize it was about the less then 2 week time frame. No one is questioning whether or not someone is passionate about what they do... I think my complaint was that the contest was up for less then 2 weeks and on a holiday weekend- which is why only 4 entries came in... then rengede went after my comment saying thats how pros do it they have to do things in a short amount of time and without knowing they would get paid for it... to me that sounded absurd because I figured most professional artist work on commission basis- which may or may not be true. If you took my comments to mean pro artist only work for the money then please reread my comments I never said. And no dude, art isn't nearly as apprecited as it once was, lets not even get into that..... or hell, pm me. Last edited by Wry1; 04-13-2009 at 11:38 PM.. |

yeah, sure you are not trying to rag... Give me a break "pros work for money because they are pros" garbage as if I ever said pros don't work for money... You want to nitpick a statements that says "If you took my comments to mean pro artist only work for the money then please reread my comments I never said." key word "only" with "I have gone to galleries where small pen and ink drawings have gone for a $2500"... I don't even see your point what now if you make money doing art some how that means you only work for the money... please. What $2500 isn't big money to you... I don't see your point.
Art is still appreciated and valued maybe you don't think so and that is fine |

if u wanna do something you'll find the time, or make it(the time).art is worth only what some1 is willing 2 pay 4 it. $ for art is a funny concept 2 me, because whatever i draw sucks 5 mins after i draw it and i just wanna re-do it over and over again...a 'lil ocd. so 2 me art is fun...not work. any1 who doesn't c it that way should be paid. commisions, project and things u don't wanna draw...charge watt u want. watt u think ur art/idea/concept is worth. i never finished art school...just took all the art classes/illustration/anatomy -the fun stuff and bounced(only need 2 qtrs-12 credits 2 fin 4 a degree) but school 2 me wasn't 2 get a peice of paper...it was 2 learn. in other words this contest is watt u make of it...2 me it was just fun, once i was bored i stopped. no reason 4 any1 2 have hurt feelings or any1 2 get upset folks. so u guys kiss and make up. I salute you for having enjoyed this, uberthawk!
In my case, I spent some days making doodles (like, during lessons at university), till I came up with an overall design that I could see as an action figure. Only then, on sunday, I decided to put down the final design... and actually quite enjoyed the process, mainly because I went for a complex-yet-simple approach (both in design and for the composition of the piece as well)... which is a bit uncommon for me since I'm a very "in-the-details" fella. I guess I really tried to imagine it as a 3 3/4 action figure. In the end... art (or the act of "creating") should be a pleasing, fulfilling experience. More often than not, this isn't the case... but well, when you DO enjoy it, it is... it is bliss. This... I command.

Thanks again for all the entries!
I must say I'm a bit surprised/amused by all the debate my contest has sparked! I'd like to add that M_Renegade's explanation of the many-artists-enter-only-one-gets-paid conundrum is accurate. It is my understanding that design work often goes this way, everyone needs to submit a "pitch" but only one person gets the job (and hence the money). I'm sorry for the short time frame, but I'm balancing several things at once with this project, and didn't want this aspect to go on forever. meleeinabox- thank you for playing devils-advocate and making sure that I was on the up and up. The world needs people with that kind of attitude Poll is up! http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ease-vote.html WW Last edited by writerwolf; 04-14-2009 at 04:57 PM.. |

writerwolf, I should apologize for one thing to you... the comment about you might skip out after everything is done- I did not realize you actually posted your name on that post... which I hope you understand being this is the internet and the anonymity of it... I didn't see a company name and over looked your name towards the bottom of the post that is where that comment came from.

Thanks for the apology, but there was no offense taken
Even with me having the integrity to post my actual name in the thread (which I needed to do, since I was posing the rules as an informal contract), there's still no inherent reason for a new guy to be trusted I hope that I'll earn the group's trust in due time WW
