Boy that makes me regret passing over that Flash I found at TRU that was missing the brown paint on his right glove. NOT!!! Or the other "variant" I passed over at TRU when I saw an ACE vs. Wild Weasel comic 2-pack that had a Cobra stand with Ace's name on it instead of a G.I. Joe stand.
So now Ace might be a "traitor" but I'm not a fool and know what a variant is compared to a production error. I also collect for myself and the fun of it, not to make money off of people. At least this attempt at a new "variant" is more of a legit production error compared to those repackaged "variants" people try to pull off. I mean it's one thing finding something unpainted, but it's another thing finding something like Han Solo and Boba Fett instead of Ace and Wild Weasel in a G.I. Joe comic 2-pack and believing that it really came that way. Wake up people and don't waste your money foolishly on ebay with all of this "variant" hoopla. The "real" variants are the ones that the toy company makes on purpose such as the different costumes for superheros in the Marvel Legends line. Or different colors for the same molded Clone Trooper in the Star Wars line, especially if the figure number and UPC remains the same for each. (A good example of a Star Wars variant was in the Revenge of the Sith line with the red and blue Royal Guard.) As for G.I. Joe we know that we have the Black Timber, Yellow Stalker, and Shark Tattoo Shipwreck as variants. Everything else like changes in the crotches, or un-painting and then completely removing the anchor from Gung-Ho's hat and Shipwreck's belt are considered running changes made by the production team. To me variants are figures that come out with 2 or more versions at exactly the same time and are noted by the toy company who produces them. |

maybe we should change the definition of variant to = a worker who forgot to paint one of the million minor pieces of plastic because he made a mistake. Then we can come up with a new name that can be a real definition of a variant so people don't call every little nit pick a varaint
