People think they're freakin experts nowadays.
any shmoe can buy himself a price guide and try to sell items for full guide price. a lot of folks dont understand the logic of supply and demand. Thats how the comic boom of the early 90s almost killed the industry. Even if you take a MIB toy to a dealer, they'd still only offer around half for what its worth. Its the dorks who think they're gonna get rich on the stuff who are the problem. If I had that kind of cash to spend, I would definitely spend that amount on a sealed one, because that's the only way I'm ever going to get a loose one in mint shape. It'll happen some day, and I'll feel sick shelling out the money for it, but getting it on the shelf will be an amazing feeling. I ain't getting rich on jack. I'll be buried before my main toy collection makes anyone any money. |

I see some on here saying that they would buy one to open. I would discourage anyone from opening any MISB (ARAH) items. These items haven't been manufactured for 20+ years and each year their numbers dwindle. It is my view that any MISB items should be preserved in package. Most of the time one can find a mint/near mint example of any MISB item if patience is exercised. My ultimate collecting goal it to have one of each item (1982-1990) loose and one of each item MISB. It's a lofty goal, but I hope to reach it someday.

Gotta disagree there. When I ever get around to putting up the money for a Defiant, it's getting opened and displayed. I'm a loose collector, and I could care less if it upsets those carded collectors out there because it will be on my shelf til i die, and probably til my son dies after that, so none of you will ever see it in the light of day in either case. So what does it matter if I open it or not.

these are old pics, before my toy room was complete and filled, but the difiant is clearly on the same scale as the flagg. it blows the engineering of the flagg away though. this is mine from back in the day. i never applied the stickers, but i did open and assemble it. it is super mint and complete for it was only for show. i mowed many of lawn for this and i highly recommend owning one. if you look at the defiant box size compared to the flagg, it is considerably bigger and f'n heavy i might add.

You think this is bad, how do you think I feel when someone glues a bunch of Lego pieces to a bunch of little $10 transformers, connects them, and sells it for $5,000?

I also must say if I had the cash or a credit card with a high end limit, I would give $3,000 for the Defiant MISB without a second thought. The grading fee for this would be outrageous though, more than likely close to $1,000. I can see some of the Transformer customs fetching a decent price (like some Devastator customs I've seen), because it does take time and some skill to construct something like that, though some of the prices they sell for is a bit much... However the thing that really get's me is the ridiculous amounts some people pay for the repainted/airbrushed Transformers (like the stuff Sabrina_Ng does). It takes maybe a few months if you're slow and have crappy equipment to get good at it, after that it's all about how much patience you have to disassemble every piece, sand every joint, remember where everything goes, all that good stuff. It is a pain in the ass, try to repaint even a simple Basic TF!, but $3000 worth of pain? Nah. On the other hand, I do look at some of them as art, especially any free-handed graphics, and that I have no problem with seeing it sell for whatever. What bugs me is when people buy art because Picasso made it, and not because they like Picasso's art. It's disrespectful to buy someone's work just because their name is on it. I've got a lot of hate on my soul. lol |

I'm like some of the others who would like to have both, a MISB and a loose. These things are rare and they're just not many around. The supply and demand factor is pushing these prices up and I'm not sure they will be coming down very soon.
