I have custom-printed replacement engine nozzle sets available for converting your Skystriker into a more-accurate F-14D Tomcat. These nozzles are based on the engine nozzles found on the GE F110 engines used on the F-14B and F-14D (F110-GE-400). The nozzles are available in two sizes, one for vintage and one for modern.
You can buy from me on eBay or buy direct through this forum (via PM and Paypal payment) and you'll save a few bucks. Additional discounts are available for purchases of multiple sets. Vintage: Modern-Era:

Nice. What is the difference with what Hasbro released?

Thanks! There are a few differences of note. First, the Hasbro engines have no interior detail at all. Worse, the vintage engines have no external detail either. The modern-era engines did have some lines added to the outside of the nozzle to indicate that it was a variable geometry nozzle, but the detail is very basic. Secondly, beyond the lack of detail, the overall shape of the nozzles is not correct for the GE engines used in most versions of the Tomcat. Here are both generations of the Hasbro engines next to my replacement nozzles for comparison:
If you notice, the Hasbro nozzles are all what I would call "radish-shaped." This profile is based on the Pratt & Whitney TF30 engines, which were discontinued from manufacture in 1986 and by 1987 the Navy was procuring the (far-superior) GE F110 engines for the F-14B (designated F-14A Plus at the time) and, eventually, the F-14D Super Tomcat. Here are some photos of real-world F-14 engines: No radishes there, and the nozzle petals are all much wider than this P&W example here: So the latest and greatest versions of F-14 jets (most importantly, the F-14D Super Tomcat) actually never used the crappy P&W engines that the Skystriker comes with which makes alternate nozzles a must for any F-14 Super Tomcat conversion, and still a good choice for any Tomcat conversion in general unless you strictly want to represent the F-14A. Last but not least, my nozzles are also available in the "open" afterburner and taxiing configuration (though not yet printed in gray - I'll update with some gray "open" nozzles once I print some): I'd like to see you find that one from Hasbro!

I have some copies of the "closed" position nozzles printed in gray now as well. The nozzles are available in two sizes, one for vintage and one for modern.

Normally I'm not all that interested in aftermarket parts, but these are incredible, especially the inner detailing. I love the originals, but don't like them much, if that makes sense.
I don't imagine your supply is limited? I plan on re-acquiing the '83 at some point and may need a set. |
