So about a week ago my auction for a complete carded set of 25th Anniversary figs +Doc ended.
(G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary: complete W1-13 +Doc (MOC) - eBay (item 170342188966 end time Jun-18-09 07:22:27 PDT)) The day the auction ended I sent the winning bidder an invoice. A week passed and I sent an email wondering whether the transaction would be honored. Yesterday, I sent a 2nd email notice. I did not hear from the buyer until today, NINE DAYS after auctions' end. This is what the buyer wrote: "Sorry, i hadnt gotten back to u i have not checked my ebay account in a while. Evidently my son had decided to bid on these w/out my knowledge. I am not backing out i will pay u but i do not have access to a secure computer/paypal account until i get back home on Monday night or early Tuesday. I will make the payment immediately when i get home if that is ok. I can send u $100 of the payment via paypal from my balance on there right now to show i will pay the rest. I just have to wait to i get home to pay the rest with my checking account thru paypal and to also feel safe about it. LMK, if u want the $100 this weekend or want all of it at one. Sorry again. I will also probably be sending an alternate address to ship to when i pay thru paypal, because i feel my son doesnt need them right now. Thanks" My alarm bells are going off like crazy. Am I being paranoid? Any advice how to proceed?

Tell him you only send to the address listed on the paypal acct to comply with the Buyer/Seller protection plan. Get tracking. Tell him that you're ok with him backing out if he'd rather and that you understand, but that you'll need him to agree to it when eBay sends him a notice so that you can get your outrageous fees credited back to you.

Hard to tell if you are being scammed or not.
This whole thing about kids bidding on things is actually happening more and more these days. I read a story about a 3 year old girl who bid on an auction for a bulldozer or some other real contruction vehicle and won while her mother was sleeping. I would take RuckusJr's advice there. In any case see if you can work something out. It seems like the worst thing that can happen here is that you get stuck with your items which you can put up for sale again. If the guys is willing to pay see if he sends that $100 through first. Then give him a certain amount of time (maybe about a week) to send the rest. If he never sends the rest you can keep your items and send him back the $100. To tell you the truth I rather be on your end as the seller in this case instead of being a buyer in another case where you pay and receive nothing. At least you will still have your items to try and sell again even if that guy never sends you at cent.

He got a good price for all 13 waves MOC plus Doc that is a steal IMO.
He should cut the B.S. and just pay you to send them to his listed address. |

I don't think its a "Scam", Just a dead beat bidder. File a non paying bidder form and re list, that's a great deal for an entire set, If I had the dough I would buy it.

Well, the dude does have 124 transactions with 100% positive feedback...his reply seems a bit sketchy though. I would definately only ship them to his registered Paypal address. Of course, only after you've received full payment. Good luck, whatever happens.

His ebay history seems trustworthy, though only 2 recent transactions for small items. The bulk of the buyer's transactions were over a year ago.
Anyway, the advice here seems to be 1) Only accept full payment and 2) Only ship to the listed address when payment clears. I've sent a response to the buyer effectively saying as much and offered the buyer the chance to cancel the transaction, no harm done. Thanks for the good advice Tankers! I'll post updates and hope this turns out well.

Sounds like they bid more than they want to spend. Kids barely play with these to begin with and someone is going to blame one? You get e mail notifications of a winning bid so if they have checked their e mail they know they won something. Don't ship to an alternate address either. It's not your responsibility to help "discipline" their kid if that is the real deal. Sounds like their own computer is the unsecured one if this is the actual case. You might as well re list it and get a paying bidder. Block them also.
