Well I just got burned on E-bay so let me share my tale.
I sent a package of 5 mint figure in not so clean packages Star Wars figures. The buyer paid $12.50 plus shipping. I got a message saying that the figures where not packed well enough and that 2 seemed damaged. OK, I over stiff the boxes, I ship fast and I try to work out any problems. The buyer hit me with a neutral feedback even though I told him I would refund 25% of the ending value. I am most angry now. I mean he just picked up 5 figures for $12.50 when I [payed around $42.00 for them myself. He was playing the system and I knew it. Paypal and E-bay are the same company and guess what if you sell and the buyer pays through paypal you could still be looking at a complete refund even if you never get the item back. A buyer can screw with you if they wish too and you have no recourse. I am not sure but something sure smells fishy in Denmark. I second that. It sucks to be a seller. I shipped $125.00 worth of dvds to Canada a few months back. The guy claimed he never got them...... contacted paypal..... and they refunded his money, from my account. Since there is no delivery confirmation between the US and Canada, I was screwed. He definitely ripped me off, no doubt. BUT interestingly enough I found out in a later discussion with paypal that there was a way to track the package.... You have to fill out a customs form, so.. there is no way to trace it between here and Canada but once it enters Canada there is basically a trace on it with the customs slip. So, I could have proved whether or not it got delivered, but...... by the time I found this out I had already thrown out the receipts..... Sucks. But, yeah, you gotta watch ebay and paypal. They can really screw you if you don't cover your ass. |

That really is unfortunate. After you jump thru all these hoops with this buyer your only recourse it to add him to your blocked bidder list. This way you can avoid being burned again by the same nitwit.

If you are making the money, buy a memory card for $20 just for what you sell and alway put tracking on packages. What is it like 75c?It is a hassle but it does protect you and it dont make all buyers suffer from what a few jackas*es do.Sorry to hear about it.

All sales final. That's how I play now. I used to collect the old vintage GIJOE figures back in the early 1990's when all there was available was Toy Shop magazine. No internet and very few local hobby shops. ALL of my transactions were done with money orders WITHOUT delivery confirmation and I NEVER LOST A PACKAGE. I dealt with a few jerks, but overall things went just fine.
There are a lot of scum out there today. Total scammers. I hate being on eBay now. I feel like I am the bad guy, but I am the victim. I can't leave negative feedback anymore for deadbeat buyers and I am forced to use delivery confirmation to cover my butt on liars and thieves that claim they never got their package. I have been burned several times and had the unpleasant experience of PayPal taking the funds right out of my account for it too. Piss me off! Also there is that never ending fun time of having people complain about shipping costs, LIKE IT'S MY FAULT they keep raising the rates!!!!!! Boxes cost money people. Packing supplies cost money too. It gets hard to get a sale on something when the shipping costs more that what they are buying. My advice is - No Returns, all sales final, get delivery confirmation to protect you from PayPal. I have dealt with the "swappers" before. It's an ugly mess. I have also dealt with people trying to get insurance claims on items they "claim" broke during the trip over. B.S.! They want me to pay for it, but when it comes time to file a complaint with the Post Office they get all "I am not happy, but I will deal with it." These scum just want to ship back their broken parts for your mint parts and get YOU to pay the difference. 12 years on eBay has made me a cynical seller. Protect yourself. When in doubt, assume they are going to scam you. Be nice, but be very cautious.

I have to share this story too.
I sold several of my old 80's GIJOE figures on eBay a few years ago to some guy that was selling rare boxed items HE DIDN'T HAVE. He sold thousands of dollars worth before eBay shut him down. Guess what eBay and PayPal did to me? They took ALL the money that he paid for my figures from my account. They said he was engaged in fraudulent activities and he was using funds he didn't have. PayPal needed to pay back the people that got scammed under buyer protection at my expense. I lost over $100.00 because of that prick. Oh eBay, how you make me ill these days.

Ok so after 2 demanding messages from the buyer.I respond saying that sorry that your toy was broken and that I sent a brand new unopened packaged toy.I said in the future please Do Not Bid on auctions that say All Sales Final with no returns.I explained that I paid alot to aquire this exclusive toy and that it is no longer available anywhere so I can't send a replacement.I told them to send the "broken" toy back with its original package to the address that was on the shipping label it was sent in.Of course I responded this back in the E-Bay message board and not through that secondary e-mail as they requested and I didn't write my return address or give my e-mail as I felt like they were trying to phish for it.Now I dont get a response back all day and just now I checked my E-Bay account again and the buyer gave me a positive feedback comment and word for word "This is a great seller I recommend this shop to everyone, GREAT communication 5".
What the hell????Am I in the Twilight Zone??I'm all confused now. What is going on??I assume I don't do anything anymore?? |

I'll try to keep this short but I'm still pissed and don't trust ebay buyers to this day.
The last thing I sold on ebay was a $500 Amazon gift certificate around August of 2007. A friend won it through his job and wanted cash. Anyway all through the auction I got the usual sob stories of why someone wanted it for less than 500 and that I should end the auction early for them. Well I let the auction run it's course and the winner paid the $500, I sent him the corresponding numbers to claim the gift certificate, he even left me positive feedback and I thought, cool, done deal. Not so much. A few weeks go by and I get a charge back from paypal, I had never even heard of it, I didn't know what a charge back was. So I look into it and the buyer is claiming an unauthorized use of his credit card. When this happens paypal takes the disputed amount from the sellers account and holds it for the duration of the investigation. So now my account is down $500 while this case is being investigated. Now keep in mind I had already given my friend his money, so I'm out of $500 for helping a friend, great. Anyway, luckily the buyer had multiple negative feed backs resembling what he was doing to me. I emailed copies of those pages and links to the auction in question and my ebay feed back pages and my side of the story with copies of the original gift certificate to paypal along with informing them that I would be sending all of that to my lawyer as well, which I never did btw. Eventually I accepted the fact that my money was gone, I was pissed but there was nothing I could do about it. Well 2 weeks before Christmas 2007, out of nowhere $500 appears in my paypal account. The investigation ended in my favor. That's great and all but they had my money tied up for 4 months over some piece of shit thief trying to get over on me. At the time it wasn't the end of the world, but right now if I woke up and was out of $500, I'd be in trouble. F*&# that guy. I haven't tried to sell anything on ebay since. Again, best of luck man. |

I was messing with my last post for about a half hour so I didn't see your most recent post. Sounds like your good but I'd keep this transaction documented and filed away just in case.

I had one and the guy won the dispute and never sent the item back so paypal overturned their judgement and I got the money back. I always state in my auction that I'm no expert grader and that since the item is sealed I cant tell the figure quality so the buyer is buying it as is.
