Don't need a link. I have a Mainframe comic pack in hand. My walkie-talkie has a 1 printed on it. Since I know that this comes from the mold making process, I am sure there are walkie-talkies out there with a 2 on them. I posted a thread about it last night, making it clear how silly I think the idea of it being a variant is. The question, which you appear intent on dodging with your sarcastic comments about my opinions, is do you consider this a variant, and if so, how will you know you have a complete MOC collection if you can't tell which number is on it without opening the package? Now, do I think you're a damn fool for considering these variants? You bet. Do I care that you consider them variants? Nope. Significant difference there, though I doubt you will see it. As was said earlier in this thread, if a mold number is a true variant there are many more variants in the modern line than anyone realizes. I'm just wondering how somebody who buys into this as a variant, and claims that he does so because he's a completist, will ever know he has 'em all. Oh, and please...stop with the 'Hasbro calls it a variant' stuff. Hasbro sent figures off to AFA to be graded; AFA were the ones who labeled them as variants. |

Seems to play into the same mentality of the people who want both versions of the same figure with the 2 different cardbacks. 1 with the 25th logo and 1 with the newer ones. Same figure but has the difference. I guess if it doesn't matter to you though it wouldn't matter.
Some people do enjoy having all available versions. So they buy em. I know I did. I agree about the colored logo. I've seen alot of Flints with white logo but I knew the Chrome logo worth more since it's the original release. The white logo are worthless reissue. But hey, if I got deep pocket, I'd do the same like you but I got a baby to care for. Ha ha!! YO JOE!!! |

Oh, and please...stop with the 'Hasbro calls it a variant' stuff. Hasbro sent figures off to AFA to be graded; AFA were the ones who labeled them as variants. 1) you don't know, nor do u have proof there is a #2 or any other differences on the mainframe figure. 2) you seem to think the word variant has some sort of rules. Which is does not. If it in anyway varies from the original then it would be considered a variant. Just because you feel it isn't varying enough, doesn't remove the qualification. Here's an idea. Just don't buy it! Some people will and think it's kinda neat. 3) When a major company who puts out a mass amount of product makes a special note about a certain figure having a unique quality over the others, that provides a demand for it. Whether it's a number on a gun or holes in a helmet or a extra name on a battle stand. The company that produces it felt it was something to recognize, thus the interest in it. When HASBRO speaks, people listen. When bloviating armchair collectors do, people don't. If you don't agree... Don't buy it. Case closed.

If and when Hasbro ever 'speaks' on this issue, we'll have to revisit the topic. And no, Hasbro's listing of the labels from AFA doesn't count as them speaking. Nice chatting with you. |

Nope, I'm just using logic. I'm not surprised that it isn't getting through to you.
Read your own quote above and see if you can figure out why most folks here don't care about your thoughts on variants. ;) Good 50 cent word in there, though. If and when Hasbro ever 'speaks' on this issue, we'll have to revisit the topic. And no, Hasbro's listing of the labels from AFA doesn't count as them speaking. Nice chatting with you. |

You're quite amusing.. First, you are not getting your point through to me because it has no validity. You are simply "guessing". You have nothing to offer except a (what seems to be bitter and disgruntled lol) opinion on what variants should be qualified as. Anyone can toss out information and claim it's true. Sorry. Bring me the pudding with the proof in it. Second, you are acting as if you now speak for the masses, as if you are clued into what "people here" think about things. Let me help you my misguided friend. You don't. You are but 1 person on a forum for collectors of toys. This forum is made up of people who buy self made figures all the way to figures with a miniscule variations. Both, mind you, are just fine in my book. I do not judge people or act as if they feel something is worth buying makes them an idiot. Take example. I think you have other issues that are bleeding over into this variant topic that need to be addressed elsewhere and not on a toy forum. And nice chatting with you too! ;)
